Martin O'Neill has admitted he is envious that Everton and Fulham will be slogging it out in the Europa League tonight after Vienna dumped us on our Arse...played last night.
Speaking on the official site this morning, Monny couldn't help but wonder 'what if' as our fellow Premiership colleagues take on AEK Athens and CSKA Sofia respectively tonight.
However, their is a bright side. It has allowed him all week to work with the team on ensuring we take a further 3 points this season from Pompey.
'It's great to have this time to work with the players, but with the Europa League matches coming up, it's the first time I have really missed those adventures.'
So do we Martin.
He further explains Europe was the ideal place to bring through the youngsters to get them used to first team action without running the risk of dropping point sin the league.
'I said a long time ago that I wanted to integrate the younger players with the more senior ones in Europe. That would've been nice.'
He does make an issue out of the squad size again, stating that when you have a decent squad and depth you will miss it more (obviously he's now happy with our numbers), but when a squad is smaller it is more of a blessing in disguise.
I think most fans would disagree with his latter point, there is nothing like an evening European game at B6 and you can never have enough of them, even if you have to bring people out of retirement to fill the bench!
Oh well, hopefully we can attain European qualification this season again, and next season we can really go for it and genuinely attempt to win a Trophy at the end of it.![]()
