James Milner - What A Quality Bloke!

I think I've fallen in love with James Milner ... in a totally manly way you understand cough cough!

The guy is just quality though. He has apologised to fans in an interview in the Express&Star for a below par performance at the weekend in our local derby win.

Top class!

The winger, who appears to have leapt above Ashley Young in the England pecking order (?) told the paper he thinks his 'radar' was off adding that sometimes games just go like that and things 'don't always go your way'

Milner

As I was banging on about in the match thread at the time though, despite being off form until nearer the end of the game, he didn't (and never does) hide, he still wants the ball and keeps trying to make things happen. Others go missing when things aren't right.

He said 'You've just got to keep going on and trust your ability and that's what I try to do.'

Old head on young shoulders, as he's been about so long due to starting early with Leeds, you tend to forget he is still only a youngster learning his trade rather than the finished article. Going to be a formidable player for Villa over the years I reckon!

If he was half as good on the field as his price and your commendation, he'd be deadly. So much ability and as he's shown since he joined in O'Leary's time so inconsistent. He needs to sort it or he'll become another nearly man, a bit like the way Young's going.

"If he was half as good on the field as his price and your commendation, he'd be deadly." Spot on once again, avfc48. Milner is so clearly deficient, as is Young - like all of O'Neill's signings. I can't understand why they're being picked for the national side, but we all know that Capello knows absolutely zip in comparison to you, eh?

I think Milner is awsome! Has a blinding work ethic! Will keep going and going and always give 100% effort every game. Lennon had a poor game for Spurs at the weekend for instance. Some players have off days as everyone in the world does. Gerrard, Lampard have all had their moments and come through the other side. Cliche I know but form is temporary class is with you for life!

Fantastic attitude. Yet again! I know their not the "finished article" in some ways, but boy I'm glad we've got Young, Downing (in a few months - lol), Gabby and at the moment the best of the bunch Milner. Just a personal opinion you understand! Up the Villa.

48, just once in a while, leave positive threads to people that want to be positive for goodness sake. If not for him and Barry the last year of DOL, we'd have been relegated. As for consistency, he's been consistent enough to force his way into the England set up. Not a shambolic England set up, a very promising one. I think the lad is a gem and will get better and better.

I like Milner..what you see is what you get...a lad who gives his all...may be not the most naturally gifted player in the world but one that every team needs (and wants)...With player like Milner you are never going to struggle and it frees other more gifted players up (and lazier player too) to do there thing..I'm looking forward to the addition of Downer cus I think he'll be the passer of the ball in central mid!!..48 ...why so down all the time? I respect that your entitled to an opinion but does it have to be so negative all the time?

Milner is an unpolished gem. Anyone who saw his performances in the U21 championship in the summer would have seen he was head and shoulders above every other player there. If Young had half of the confidence and drive that Jimmy has then he could be a world beater, sadly with Ashley you never quite know what sort of performance he's going to give us at the moment, with Milner you get what it says on the tin!!! And I'm now convinced that 48 is really a Bluenose who just comes on here to wind everyone up!!!

ljkal - Correct! Villa easily have the best wingers (collective) in the Premiership, EASILY. Young who I think is the best left winger in Prem & Milner I think is the best right winger. (I find it strange how I don't feel comfortable with Young on right but do with Milner on left) then we have Downing (although he will become O'Neill's 'Barry V2 project' in the centre) and Albrighton, who has undoubted potential. That's 3 of the best wingers & 1 who potentially will be. Wow, a thank you wouldn't go a miss Capello!

Athletes usually hit their physical peak around 28 years old. How old is Milner? Young? Agbonlahor? This is a solid young core of players around whom a consistently good team can and hopefully is being built. Take a look at some of the classic EPL matches and you'll see the likes of Gerrard, Lampard, Beckam etc making a hash of things from time to time. It does take time and maturity to put all the pieces together and to learn to harness the raw talent.

Personally I think Milner had an excellent match. Really I do. Yes he messed up a number of passes/shots/final balls, but he was always there in a position to make that pass/shot/final ball. His work rate is exceptional and although it was one of those days where nothing much came off for him, another day it all will. If he plays like that every week I for one will be happy.
