'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Luke Young Won't Be Rushed

After earlier reports implying that Luke Young may make a return in the Blues derby this weekend, Martin O'Neill has said the match will probably come too soon for the player.

Speaking to SSN O'Neill confirmed that Luke is too far from match fitness, and it's a distance that won't be covered between now and kick off.

'Having given it a bit more thought, I think Sunday may be a little too soon for Luke. There's no point rushing him through.'

I have a feeling Monny was more hopeful on Young's fitness than has actually turned out to be the case. We know he played in yesterday's 2-0 loss to Nottingham Forest in a behind closed doors match at Bodymoor Heath and I'd guess that factored hugely in the about turn.

Not that it's a problem, whilst most fans were glad to see that Luke could be back in contention the overriding feeling was that the Sty was probably not the best place to make his return for a variety of reasons.

O'Neill is confident his return won't be too far off though, commenting:

'He's getting there and he's not feeling too bad at all.'

better to get him back fully match fit, totally over his thigh strain and hopefully coming to terms with the awful personal circumstances.

Love the Young. He was one of our best players last season and I feel sorry for him what he's had so far this pre-season. Will be nice to see him and Monday-Tuesday battling it out for the right back berth
