Villa's revenue is shown as less than half of many of the leading clubs in Europe. Just goes to show the possibilities for the club (and Randy) if they can keep the growth going.

One final point for AVFC48: You throw in the word Europe - no doubt meaning the early exit from the Europa Cup. Thank goodness we are out. The winning team will play 18 or 19 games for prize money of £5m, less considerable expenses. (Compare that to £50m for the CL) In the process the fixture lists gets congested, players get tired and unless you have a much larger squad than the extra £5m will support, if you win, it will inevitably cause problems in the league - leaving fresh teams like Spurs and MCFC to benefit. The answer to Europe is to bypass the Europa Cup and head for the CL.

On the point yes the financial reward from Europa is small compared to the Chumps League, but that's to be expected. Judging competitions by financial rewards alone are short sighted though I think. We could apply that mentality to domestic Cups aswell but you don't factor in the true benefits. Better 'brand' awareness as the phrase seems to be today, gets Villa known as more of a force across Europe which has benefits for players in the future AND new potential supporters, the additional merchandise that can be factored in by potential new recruits AND limited run 'celebratory' items ie a special branded 3rd kit, game specific scarfs etc etc.

It's not just all about the final kitty, it's the whole package argument that raises our profile. So if you think we are doing well so far, you look at the recent press about people considering Randy as the best Chairman in the league etc etc and then you look at the markets the club from a business point of view can still exploit, then you can't help agree we are making fantastic strides but there is also a hell of a long way left to go.

The club has been turned around in the last few years and it's showing, but the game isn't over it and there's plenty of work still to be done. Other markets, European competition etc - there's life in this journey yet!

Mike, my post had nothing to do with the financials, it was out of sheer frustration that AVFC48 seems to be hell bent on putting down the club I love tme and time again. If you are a regular on these boards you will know that I do not randomly start arguments with members, I'm just sick to the back teeth of his negativity. I work with a few unfortunate noses and even they don't put us down as much as AVFC48 does.

There is no way AV48's comment deserved that response. A kneejerk negative rsponse to everything he writes is the pot calling the kettle black and destroys debate. Being out of Europe I consider a massive blow, and if you asked The Fonz, Kieron Clark, Barry Bannan, Mark Albrighton etc etc as well as the regular first teamers I would have thought their views are the same. We move on, but the EL was a huge opportunity to play a strong team mixing the best of our youngsters and first team players, with the league format providing the potential for the experience that never seems forthcoming in the PL. It is not all about money. I would consider a season of blooding youngsters and a run in the cups followed by a much stronger push in the League the following season could ultimately be a very successful way forward. Viewed positively, the EL was the chance to have pour cake and dat it. If things worked out for our Summer spending we could have success this season and blood the youth too. The one -off 90 minute knock-out format of the League Cup does not offer the same opportunity and while I hope some of the youngters are given a run, we need to go with a strong team from the outset as it is now a big competition for Villa and a chance to win something.

Longman, I know your post had nothing to do with financials, I was moving the debate on again. That said, exactly how - on a thread discussing the growth of the club - can Euro involvement not be a valid point but instead a dig? Agree or disagree with 48, I do regularly but debate the issue don't insult the poster. It goes for everyone and it's not difficult and it's getting bloody boring to read when it happens. Yes I know you don't do it often, but that's why the post was aimed at all and not just you chap.

And like it or not 48 puts us down (although here he didn't it was a valid addition) because he wants to see us do better, he expects more from us. Quite how that makes him and others (like me who regularly agree with him) noses I know not.

Gate receipts not included - but depend on number of supporters attracted - less police costs and stuff such as players bonuses etc. Not sure what the spilt is with opposing teams.

Congratulations to the management team. I am quite sure that our great club is being run with scrupulous honesty, perhaps unlike some other clubs which are used as cash cows. Every day I feel a spike of pride in being a Villan. You know what? I think we might finish 3rd or 4th this season.

I'd love for us to finish in the top 4 just to see either Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool or Arsenal struggle financially after budgeting on their 'guaranteed' Champions League money. I believe all 4 are fearing losing their spots. As their reluctance to spend this summer suggests, the four all seem to have tightened their purse strings. I'm pretty sure Villa have spent more thall ALL of them this window. THE 'TOP 4' ARE RUNNING SCARED!
