MON - Davies Could Be Out For 5 Months

Villa boss Martin O'Neill has warned in the Express & Star that Curtis Davies could be out for up to five months.

Davies is due to see a specialist this week, if he hasn't already (the report last week said he'd see the specialist Tuesday or Wednesday) and MON says that a similar problem for Luke Moore kept the player out for five months following surgery.

On the arrival of Richard Dunne from Manchester City and James Collins from West Ham, he says he is 'pleased' to have them at Villa especially as ' Curtis will probably be out for a fairly lengthy period.' Adding that surgery is looking 'more and more likely'. He also says if he does need it they will make sure it is done soon, maybe even next week, as it is 'important for the players future.'

He has also updated about Wilfred Bouma saying he is 'not doing too badly' adding the player seems happy with how things are progressing and on our new signing from Middlesbrough, Stuart Downing he added, 'Stewart is doing a little bit of straight-line running. We are just taking it slowly.' He also says 'He's brilliant....Having met him over the last couple of days I'm really looking forward to getting out and training and working with him.'

Our latest poll asks who you think should be our defensive partnership, with this in mind you'd have to assume as a start off, Carlos and Dunne I'd assume?

Every time he seems to be getting a bit of form he seems to be out with an injury. I'm glad we've got Dunne in to fill the void but I still think It's Davies position long term.

If Bouma is out for too much longer does anyone think he'll be considering retirement? He's not the youngest and will certainly of lost a yard..... (I bloody hope not)

Cuellar has started to show a bit of class, he'll need to to keep out Collins, I don't think Carlos is one of MON's 'untouchables'. Having said that, I'd like to see what Collins can do.

Davies and Dunne when fit. Until then Dunne plus one other. Don't know enough about Collins to be honest but can he really be worse than Cuellar?

Deano i think Cuellar will be top quality he has needed a year to settle in plus he played alot out of position last year.

I think Davies deserves a lot of credit for very genuinely wanting to keep playing when a lot of modern footballers would have cried off.

good point Kimbo, very many like to cry off. Even the big man himself it seems!

Hopefully Dunne shows the form he has done for years at city, and Collins turns out to be a bargain buy, as to be honest no-one knows anything about him, although the Ham fans didn't seem to want to lose him.. Lots of people are giving rave reviews about Clark, and fair enough, he did have a very promising debut, but one game isn't enough to secure the position. I hope MON gives him more opportunities to prove his class and i'm sure he'll carry on the form shown against Fulham. For me, the centre backs would have to be Cuellar and Dunne simply because Cuellar seems to be in a rich vain of form, and Dunne, Well, He's simply class. End of.

yup, MON hinted that he might compete with Barry for England in the centre, so who knows!? Will be nice to have some options.

Just read the comments by Dunne on being 'forced out' of Man City as they needed the money!!!!!! But seriously it always leaves me a little uncomfortable to see players coming in who are disappointed to be leaving their existing clubs. Think of the list of other names who have came to us since O'Neill took over, I cant think of anyone who would not have been absolutley buzzing and jumped at the chance. Maybe Im worrying too much and it means nothing but.....just doesnt really sit right with me!! Oh and by the way, is Collins or Dunne wearing number 5, I assume the other will wear 28?? And another thing, hope Petrov remains captain, Im not a fan of new players taking the armband straight away!!

The Fear - Downing- Hopefully can make a quick recovery and get in good form before the end of the season, would love to see barry no go to the world cup! in an odd kinda way.

I agree with Deano that new players shouldn't be given the armband straight away.
