'If It's Football, It's Vital'

End Of Speculation - Now Lets SUPPORT Villa

Is everybody sitting comfortably? Then I shall begin!

We have all watched, speculated and celebrated/commiserated the rollercoaster ride that is the most depressing time of the year - The Transfer Window.

No Villa for a couple of months and nothing but rabid conjecture regarding who will/will not be dressed in the wonderful claret and blue of the Mighty Villa.

I work for 'an established local newspaper' and for the last few weeks I've been having my ears burnt by a substantial amount of alleged gossip, in fact, I got so riled by the latest sport editors 'exclusive' that I started a rumour myself purely to see how far it got out of hand (it nearly went to print, only stopped as my manager, who knew it was a hoax, stepped in and got the plug pulled!)

Now though, we can all smell the fresh air, the stench of bile has cleared and we have a few months of transfer-liberty, until it opens again.

I've been reading and blogging along with the rest of you on the 'only site that matters' (is the cheque in the post Mr Fear?) and have gone through every emotion from jubilation to despair at the things said by you, my esteemed colleagues. whilst we all agree, or disagree, or agree to disagree on many of the topics discussed, we have all demonstrated passion and for that, I salute you.

I have to admit though to being rather tentative of a morning to log on to Vital, as certain posts would inevitably, at some point, get me riled. Every fan on here is fully entitled to an opinion, be it positive or otherwise, but this damn passion that I mentioned makes you forget this and the need to argue becomes overwhelming and I'm a lover, not a fighter!

But, more pressing matters come to a head, we now have a seasons worth of football to concentrate on, so this is a call to arms, a chance for everyone to enjoy a cyber-group hug!

I want opinions put to one side, this post is not about discussion or speculation, I don't want negativity, I want every Villa fan who loves this club and uses this site to take the chance to wish each other a prosperous season, this post is for everyone to get that feel good factor back, I want everyone to tell me how loud they are going to sing and everyone to stand up and say we may not sit in the same stand, but we all stand together.

Ladies and Gentlemen, allow me to get the ball rolling - May every Villa fan sing the roof off at every game and may we fully support every player who wears the shirt, but most importantly, may every Villa fan enjoy this season, I'll be right there with you.

Thanks Bobbyfett, beat me to the punch, was going to try to find the time to do something similar. Even down to the manager, some love him, some it appears now loathe him, but one thing you can be sure of, he is our manager for at least this season, so maybe we can all now try to calm down slightly from the bad run and this player/that player not arriving and try to just see how the season plays out... who knows, we might actually be smiling by the end of it!?

What's that Fear off the fence and in with the head in the sand lobby. Every Villa fan is behind the team, every one cries if we lose, gets upset if we don't win, gets angry when we go 18 games with 3 wins. That's what fans do. They also have the right to express that opinion wherever they please without any milk fed crap about getting behind them regardless of their incompetence, and poor performances. When we have achieved something, when we have trophies to gloat about then, just maybe you have a point, otherwise, its jam tomorrow rhetoric and you know it will never happen, despite your wimpish pleas

Ah, it all becomes clear. 48's motive for supporting a team is so that he can gloat to other supporters. And there was me thinking it was about team spirit, a tribal experience, a brotherhood through thick and thin. Football to many is more than about winning - much more. Yes, it affects me when we lose, but conversely I am proud to point out to others our sponsorship deal, our training ground, our youth policy and our England call ups.

Hear hear Bobbyfett, Cheer up avfc48 yer miserable old git. I've been avoiding posting on Villa forums all summer because of negative posters like you. There's been no need for it, you need to step back a few seasons and get some perspective. Cheer up mate seriously, we just want you to be happy like the rest of us. UTV!

I seems to think that 48 is slightly miffed about people actually supporting the club. Because apparently you only have to support your club when you have won something. Even themn he only wants to gloat not celebrate. That post 48 just about sums you up. It doesn't mean that you or I are right, but it shows the difference. Most people would like to support and celebrate, you want to moan and then gloat. Says it all. Football is all about jam tomorrow . . . . .

how anyone can accuse me of sitting on the fence, I'll never understand. I have an opinion for everything and even have an opinion on my opinions, albeit I usually think I'm wrong! Sometimes avfc48, you just have to take a step back and try to have faith.... simple as that. I've said exactly the same re: being negative after a loss and positive after a win - it is common sense - but boy oh boy, do some like to remain angry and negative all the time... it is quite crushing/depressing to read sometimes!

This positivity vs negativity debate has now taken over from the "good vs bad signing debate. At least it gives us somehong to talk about. Please keep up the negativity, it is becoming really funny now, kind of like Basil Fawlty beating his car with a branch, an object lesson in futility. If we play badly then of course we should be negative, it would be perverse not to be but negativity for the sake is just silly.

"Every Villa fan is behind the team, every one cries if we lose, gets upset if we don't win, gets angry when we go 18 games with 3 wins. That's what fans do" That's pretty good, as far as it goes, '48. The problem is, you don't say what fans do when they WIN, which I assume is why you posted almost nothing when we were on our record winning streak. Admit it - you'd actually prefer us to lose so that you can be 'right'.

I am really looking forward to the rest of the season now, i've questioned things in the last few months but no matter it's all about the 11 men in villa colours on a Sat/Sun/Mon/Tue/Wed now I would really love a good shake up at the top of the table, not just one club squeezing in but a complate change with ourselves and even Spurs and Man C in the top 4, imagine that, the journos would implode without the beloved 4 keeping the rest in their place, UTV

48 ..what a pitiful post yet again. I genuinely feel sorrow for the bleak world you inhabit. For me these are the brightest days at AVFC, and after 15 years of decline we have seen 3 of definite progress. I am eating jam today thank you very much. UTV.

As I posted elsewhere - "Just a quick note to others, without 48's fickleness, half the discussions on here would peter out after 5 or 6 comments and not stir half the passionate replies, whether he's right or wrong!

Good article BobbyFett. I'm in on the group hug - just keep your hands off my @ss! Fear - you don't sit on the fence but I wish avfc48 would. Perhaps he could even stand on the fence and get a better view of the bigger picture. It might make him smile..
