Dunne deal will have to wait until Wednesday

Breaking news on Sky Sports news that the Richard Dunne Deal will not be completed until Wednesday.

The paper work was put in at 4pm today but the huge amount of paper work at the Premier League has meant that we will have to wait until tomorrow to get confirmation.

The deal is expected to go through unless the Premier League finds a problem with the paper work.

The F.A have confirmed they have received the paper work and believe it to be proper and to be completed to the rules.

I think that BS, all the other deals have gone through, so whats the real hold up? I hope you get the lad, he has been great for City and will give you 100% effort, sadly he did not want to play a bit part at City.

respect to oneil for the first 2 years in charge but it was this summer that he should have taken us that little step further (re top class players), all the last 2 years will be for nothing, you can just see the downfall coming.....please martin oneil drop this mind set of buying over priced fringe english players

snackiest if only we were as all positive as you! No i cant understand your point but last year was not for nothing it established us as a top six club. he has brought in some good players, downing and delph. Not world class but there are decent signings. A bit more positivity and a better attendance and we mmay be able to have a good season.

I believe we do have a genuine chance of getting into the tp 6 again, the premier league has changed but the experienced players and managers always prove that experience is key. We have this experience. We have a first 11 with some cover in certian areas that could on their day top class. Being negative about the whole team doesnt help anyone, yeah slag off a signing here and there or a tactical decision or formation but we have a good manager and a good team, the best foriegn chairman in the league who are trying to build a club on solid foundations. Yeah we have a good chance of getting into europe, after four games you can't tell anything about a season.

I think O'Neill has done well this window, in fact very well. I know we're not a Man U or Chelski yet, but they don't tend to do wholesale changes to chase success, they build sustainably and add players where needed, not just for the sake of it. Look at the likes of Spurs who have spent huge amounts over the last 3 to 4 seasons and have very little to show for it. You can't build a team every season, you have to first build a team (we do have a good starting 11) then consider very carefully what needs adding and what needs shifting. We've bought a class act in Dunne (maybe not a direct Laursen replacement, but let's face it who would sell their best centre back???), a bit of depth in Collins, a quality player in Downing (when he's on song) a very, very bright prospect for the not too distant future in Delph and a very good player in Warnock. Add to that our promising youth for added depth and the return of Freddy. I honestly think this season will be a good one and think we are in a better position this year to keep up a sustained challenge for the top 4. If we don't then we'll add a couple of players next time round and be in an even better position. Obviously we all want it now, but as Spurs and others have proved previously, spending big doesn't guarantee success. I wonder if it doesn't happen for Man City this year, who's fault will it be? People will say, 'the players because they are over paid and have nothing to prove', 'the manager because he's found it hard to gel the egos' 'the board because they tried to buy rather than build success'. And if they don't do it, will those players hang around for another crack???

to say its a sad day for aston villa is about as over dramatic as you can be. this era of 24/7 internet rumours bloggers all over the place has made the average fan become an alleged expert in the dealing of a football club. also dont get me started on the "championship manager" gang either. ive played the game and its fantastic having the likes of messi and torres playing for villa but its a game and people need to remember that, think i saw a suggestion of villa offering 10 mil and cuellar for lescott.... please,if life was that easy we would all be doing a dam site better. ofcourse i would of been delighted if we could attract the likes of schnider, van der vaart, zhirkov, love, ect ect but unfortunaltley that doesnt appear to be the case perhaps it is an unwillingness on MON behalf not to pay someone twice as much as anyone else in the team is making and i for one am fine with that. i dont want a team of mercenaries. im not saying it wouldnt bring success but i also want players who are as proud to wear the shirt as i am. basically the bottom line is the issues from last season in my opinion have largely been addressed in terms of depth of the team. No perhaps we didnt get a replacement for laursen but let me ask who was saying how great he was for villa in his first couple of years with us?? not me. who knows what will become of the likes of davies, cueller maybe we will be wondering how we are going to replace them in 10 years time. we have a solid if unspectacular squad now. i fear no injury to anyone player ( apart for carew ) and give the new guys a chance. MON is a man who seems to do things his way and we are just along for the ride but i truly believe our great clubs best intersts are close to his heart. so lets do what we do best and get behind our team the season is 3 games old and believe it or not we have won 2 of them and if we finish 10th this year then all the naysayers can have a field day. All fans have different opinions 1982benny, the internet is just a big pub table, we all talk pants, the only one's opinion that matters is the manager, most know that, doesn't stop us all shooting the breeze and talking about games, what we'd have done, who we'd have played etc, even the players and directors would have their own thoughts, as said, they also know only one man's opinion matters, the one whose head is on the chopping block. Be interesting to see where we end up at the end of the season as Snackiest says. Hopefully at least 1 better than last and most will be smiling?! Glad the window is over, now we can back the lads in claret and blue and see what adventures we all get up to!

Our problems of depth are solved... HAHA... Wow delusional. What happens if Milner gets injured... Do we have anybody who can step up at the same quality? What about ashley young? Carew? Gabby? Petrov? Don't kid yourselves, we have a bought a number of players but we by no means have depth... 3 first team injuries and our team will fall apart... Not even to mention that our team is strictly weaker than last year... How can we be satisfied with challenging for top 6 when the beginning of last season we wanted to challenge for top 4... And please explain to me how there are NO players world wide that wouldnt serve us better in the same price bracket. And hey, why not make our most expensive signing this season someone who is actually INJURED... Mid-table heeeeeerrrreee we come!

By the end of the season snackiest, I suspect you'll be in trouble with your mum for not revising harder for your SATs, due to spending too much time watching the Villa fighting it out with Spurs and Man City for a top 4 spot. All this talk of signing big and he needs to go if he doesn't is like Newcastle never happened and Spurs weren't up the creek this time last year. Big signings don't equte directly to success; steady building and constant improvement is what'll get you up the league. It's the basics, and only the shallowest of fans don't see it.

Im so damn confused by all you negative fans, how can you say we are weaker than last year? Laursen is gone but we now have four players ready do step in his spot and possibly perform to a very high level. We have backs now that are above average which we didnt have last year, and cover for them who are also above average, which we didnt have last year. I was very nervous about Beye, but it seems that him and Bassong who is impressing at WHL were stuck in a faulty D last year with Newcastle because I think he is playing very well for all the negativity directed toward him from our fanbase when he arrived. Our midfield has been improved by leaps and bounds, we have brought in Delph and Downing who are great improvements to our midfield. Also NRC is like a new addition to our midfield considering he played in the defense most of the year last year. He is a great holding mid fielder who can make great game changing tackles on the best of players. Yes we lost Barry, but he was NOT the reason for ALL of our success last year(short lived success).I believe that him leaving was great for us, it allows us to test our waters and see if we can cope with out a STAR player and actually see what our team is made of. I know that I dont want Villa being a team just relying on big stars such as Liverpool. They crumble with out Torres and Gerrard. We also now have a couple youngsters that can step up and make a difference in the first team i.e. Albrighton, Lowry, Herd, Clark. Our forward line-up is the same which wasnt the best last year, but with the change of heart from MON, we now look the better playing without Heskey. Id say thats and improvement on its own. Take into the account that the top 4 is now considerably weaker than last year, id say our shot of getting into Europe is very high. Yes Man City is going to be a force to reckon with but we all know Tottenham cant keep their form. Fulham is on the down fall, so is everton. I honestly see us having a great year. Lighten up all you debbie downers and go drink a beer, kick back and get ready for some great footy this year. P.S.- my name says All hail MON because i couldnt think of a witty name at the time so this was the first thing to come to mind, so dont belittle me for worshipping MON or being bias

Does anyone remember when Villa were boring and rubbish? I do and it was really depressing. Now we have exciting players, we actually win more games than we draw and have earned respect from our rivals. This has all happened in the last 3 years and I think the Villa management deserve a lot of credit for that. Fans have short memories but a little reflection on how far we have come would not go amiss. Just give the team a chance to asuage your cynicism, we might be pleasantly surprised.

Yeah DOL's first season before he fell out with Ellis, JG, Little, BFR. Even Monny's first two seasons were brilliant, sadly not since. How far have we come though in real terms....the same as DOL achieved, what about JG, what about Little and how we played then. Short memories indeed. It's almost like this club didn't do anything prior to Monny joining. As for the last bit, this is his 4th year and we still have problems....I genuinely hope it doesn't go tits up.

Good words of reason All Hail agreed with the DDowner coments we have signed 3 very good players (Dunne, Downing and Warnock), 2 good players (beye and Collins) and one potential superstar (Delph). Remember Ash young anyone? We have the making of the a great squad. People were very worried we need at least 5 or were sunk! We signed 7 in all and now its we did not get a superstar, would people be happier if we purchased young for 20/30 million this season? Cheer up we have a squad and lost 2 games (early) and won a peace cup. Dont give hope we are only 3 games into the Premiership.

I have been negative out of frustration and all the bloody waiting, but the transfer window is closed now and I shall get behind the boys everyway I can, I agree with a lot of your very good post, All hail MON, we have many reasons to be positive, I do however think Spurs will be a lot stronger this year, but if we stick to the 4-5-1 we will hopefully hold our own, It is going to be an interesting season, hopefully 8 teams will be very close to each other to make things a bit different, although Chelsea will take some stopping for the top spot, I very much would like, as you say General, to be pleasantly suprised.

The transfer window has become highly unpleasant for all and seems to breed frustration, disappointment and, thanks to all those gossip sites, over-expectation. Let us hope we have the team to get to where this club deserves (win the whole bloody lot!) I don't what to do now I can't check for rumours....

Let us hope we have the team to get to where this club deserves (win the whole bloody lot!) I don't what to do now I can't check for rumours....

Snackiest - let me Quote "I love Villa i am just pointing out that being a mid table club is an empty world" - im sorry kid but when you support a team like Aston Villa with the fans we have and the board we have and the History we have earned then you would know Aston Villa Football Club will NEVER be an empty world - UTV

I must say I will miss the transfer banter for the next 4 months - nothing like a good disagreement and being called a muppet!! Might even change my pseudonym to Kermit!!!

I can see some positivity breaking through here - bet AVFC48 is sharpening his pen as I write this and no doubt he will denounce MON and all the transfer window activity in his normal fashion. Yes not a spectacular window but often the great buys turn out to be poor and the least expected are winners. Anyone remember Brian Godfrey? No - oh well thought not. Matron will be coming to tuck me in soon!

Excellent transfer window in my opinion and I really mean that. 7 players in. The defensive enhancements we've been crying out for and some good solid players. Dunne will be an excellent addition to the squad. We've swapped (ex) captains with Man City and got the reinforcements we desperately required. Of course I agree it would have been excellent to get some 'big names' but that was always just a pipe dream, and to be honest we're probably better off without them. No egos - just hardworking players working as a team. I'm very happy. Good work MON.

Is anyone else not concerned about Richard Dunne's attitude of "I'm not going to Villa unless you pay me £6m." The guy is getting a reported £50k+ & he's trying to squeeze as much money as he can out of City. Technically, the entire fee has gone in the back pocket of Dunne & I'm hoping for a miracle, that I wake to the headlines 'Dunne's Move To Villa Has Fallen Through' so he can sit on the bench @ City. The guy is a disgrace. As Adrian Durham said tonight on talkSPORT "Every Aston Villa fan should scrutinise everything that Richard Dunne does now for the disrespect he's shown both clubs." Undecided up until the last minute so we couldn't get a back up signing sorted out. Although Dunne was the back up signing of Wheater!

Adrian Durham love playing devil's advocate, it's pretty much all he does. Dunne is quality, he had a bad season last season as he was trying to cover Richards, who had a shocker, or Onuoha, who was a newbie. O'Neill will not stand for freeloaders, everyone he has bought in works extremely hard. I'm happy with the additions we've got, good job MON. UTV

U know what, i am not going to slag MON - i mean he is like the first manager of Villa to beat liverpool in 8 yrs - i am still over the moon abt that and at anfield, i dont agree with all his signings but then again i was one who was not keen on milner for example and sad to say i was wrong, so i guess we all think we know best even MON, so i am going to let him do his thing and hope it all works out for us in the end. peace out brothers i think we will come out 3rd.

StuLinney - I couldn't disagree more with you. He has a spot on attitude. I'm happy with the signing, while I watched him alot last year and thought he was a liability - I think he will be great at Villa. How would you feel if you served a club for so long and were captain and then once they suddenly got a ton of money and got good, they kicked you out? I'd want to feck them off for as much money as I could too....

Everyone's entitled to their opinion. Most of O'Neill's signings have been good one's, only a small few I wouldn't agree with. (Heskey instantly comes to mind.) If Dunne didn't want to leave, he should have just refused to discuss terms with us. If he really wanted to join us he would have drawn a line under the money 'owed.' (I don't think they owe him anything as he hasn't finished his deal or hit the 10 years for a testimonial.) I hope he isn't our new No.5. He's nowhere near Laursen's level. He may score the same as Laursen though, but it's always in the wrong net!

Bones_Villan is right Adrian Durham will say anything to wind up fans to get them to call in, then 2 weeks later completely contradict himself, so I wouldn't pay much attention to that, in fairness though I still listen to Talksport virtually every day

Let's see what impact our new signings have on the pitch - just remember they may take time to settle in. We've definitely strengthened at the back compared to last season. Delph and later Downing could prove to be great buys, and as someone else has already pointed out we can see some of our existing players played in their more natural positions compared to the makeshift cover they've had to step into. Surprised no-one took Salifou off our hands though :)
