Villa Confirm James Collins HAS Signed

Villa have announced the signing of former West Ham defender and Wales international James Collins.

He has signed a four-year-contract.

He told the official site that the last 24 hours has been mad but he is 'delighted' with the move.

Adding, 'Aston Villa is a massive club so, after coming here looking around the place and I'm friendly with a few of the boys as well, it didn't take a lot of persuading on my part. I loved my time at West Ham but I believe I have taken a step forward. I have come to Aston Villa to improve as a player and hopefully improve their team. I'll be looking to do that straight away.'

That'll be why I hadn't heard of him until this week then...! We haven't exactly boosted the size of the squad as promised by MON have we?!

'Wow' signing? 'Ow' signing more like. Hope he proves me wrong though. Come on MON, give us a biggy.

At much as I would love Sneijder to join villa, thats a no-go. Signed for Inter Milan last week and played in the milan derby :( Think richard Dunne will be the final signing...

claret&blue82.....Duh....everyones's heard of James Collins, he's a striker who played for our academy last year and is listed on avfc as a reserve forward. I hope this clears any confusion up! As for boosting our squad size, you should look at the first team squad list....after losing shorey and adding Dunne and Collins...I make it 36!

wow Martin, you are really exciting us with these amazing signings. please, i can't take so much excitement. Everton: John Heitinga. Us: James Collins.

I just can't get my head round the fact that, like you say rich112, Everton sign a Dutch international centre-back for 6.2 mil and we sign Collins for 5 mil. Can someone please explain this?

Ashton - that amused me when I saw our new signing was playing against West Ham Reserves tonight! Hmm, yes 36, including first team regulars of the likes of Harewood, Salifou and Andy Marshall and containing 10 or so youngsters who have a hatful of first team appearances between them - including one who it appears the club don't even know what position he plays!!! :-)
claret&blue82
Looks like Shorey's had car trouble as sky are saying he's 'hit a snag'.....Do they mean stag?

Scratch the surface of the plan b and it doesnt look to good claret&blue82...I'll agree, but as kids are very impressionable, and martin is known for his man management...I have to believe he'll turn Albrighton, Bannon, Clark and Lowry into worldbeaters!

ric112. Sling your hook and take your negative rubbish elsewhere and leave this site for the supporters. Don't suppose you were about in 1981 (you were probably a twinkle in your old mans eye judging by the child like style of your posts) when we won the league with a collections of team players and no superstars. And so what if Bluescouse are singing flim flam flum. Who the hell is Heitinga? Is he coming from Real Madrid or Barcelona or some other big club? As for wow signings I looked at the redscouse squad the other night and apart from Gerrard (possibly Carragher and Torres) there wasnt a player that I would have prefered to any of ours. Some players just get better marketed than ours and are perceived as being better than they actually are. Torres for example has a career history of 306 games and 138 goals (2.21 per game or 17 a season) whilst Carews is 343 games and 129 goals (2.65 or 14 a season). However if you believed the press you would think Torres is some kind of 30 goal a season striker and Carew is just a bit difficult to play against. Rubbish. It is about time we started shouting how good our players are instead of slagging off those who are not world beaters.

All summer we knew that MON had a surpriuse or 2 up his sleeve and that all the agony would be worth it at the end when the master plan following 3 month long 24/7 negotiations was finally revealed. Those West Ham geezers they sure put up a hard battle to keep him but our man finally wore them down to get his target. Seriously boys what did you expect; star $200m star names on 250000 a week. Not sure we'd all like it if we got there the easy way. Lets get behind what we've got and enjoy it!! Up the Villa

Dunne deal is delayed and should be finalised on Wednesday. Paperwork was in on time but Premier League wanted more time to 'ratify the deal'.
