THE FINAL COUNTDOWN! Transfer Talk

THE FINAL COUNTDOWN! Transfer Talk

At last, it is nearly over...!

Several reports including the Birmingham Mail claim that Manchester City captain Richard Dunne will have a medical at Villa today before completing his £6million move to Villa. The delay, as widely reported, has apparently been his pay off from Man City which some reports say could be as high as £6million as he was due for a testimonial for 10 years service next year.

According to the Daily Express West Ham have fended off would be suitors (including Villa) for Matthew Upson by putting a £15million price tag on the defender.

Sky Sports have 'sources' claiming that Nicky Shorey is off to Portsmouth on a season-long loan deal.

Janine Self of The Sun Villa are about to complete the £5million signing of West Ham centre-back James Collins (West Ham Fans Opinion on JC)

The Sun also claim if we can't tie up the deal for Dunne Villa will return for Matthew Upson. I find that one harder to believe as they would then be left short of centre backs, something - cash strapped or not - no sensible club would do...!

One we've been linked with all summer, Spurs winger David Bentley is apparently off to Manchester City in a swap deal involving Martin Petrov.

Curtis Davies said in the Halifax Courier (!) on the nearly Dunne deal that he is surprised that City are letting him leave as he has been 'up there' with the very best of City players.

'He has been a stalwart. He has played with a lot of different centre-half's but he has always looked good. It is strange they are looking to let him go - but he would be a good addition here. There loss would be our gain because his experience is untold - but has still got enough in the tank to play for a few more years.' He also says Dunne is 'old style' being 'solid and strong'.

Any surprises due do you think?!?!? No, must admit, nor me!

Not upset to see this window close, we can get back to a bit of normality and get on with the season. Gutted they've not brought a striker like Bent in but hey ho...! Any last minute surprises I wonder? Can't think of many that might all of a sudden become available other than maybe Jenas if Martin Petrov is going to Spurs?

Maybe if Milner, Young, Gabby, (+ Albrigton and Downing) are allowed to continue with the freedom that they have we won't need an out and out goalscorer like Bent? Its always nice to have the option but we can try and go in for one in Jan if needed. Just a thought!

No decent club would be left short of centre backs? Well we went a whole year without a rightback, then the following season went a whole year with a rightback at left back, then this season we started with an injured centre back and no cover. So West Ham might well be as crazy as us..........

I know lots of people want another forward but if we're sticking with 4-5-1/4-3-3 then I really don't see the point unless it is someone that is better than what we already have (now now, leave Emile alone!) but it may see us go for another midfielder. I doubt it, though. After all, again, it isn't worth it unless they are better than what we have. The only place we definitely needed to add was central defence & as it appears we are doing that today, the only type of signings that would be worthwhile are players of a better quality than what is already in place.
