Yeah i agree Lucy, because why the hell would we buy a player who is surplus to requirements at West Ham ? if any thing we would of gone for Upson for Laursens replacement, but i really can see the Dunne deal being Dunne pretty soon, although i would of loved Dunne and Upson that would of really made us solid for the whole season, but Collins... i dunno why we got rid of Knight, but saying that i dunno why we got rid of Cahill in the first place.

agreed, zat knights replacement, but a better player! Davies Cuellar Dunne Collins Clarke and Lowry. We are strong at centre back again

why waste 5 mill buying a replacement?...Zat never let anyone down when he played...not the best i'll agree...but always 100%....to ship him out and get replacement cover doesnt make sense....but then...we might not get him becuase Manure, The Arse, Chelski or Liverpoo will come in for him at the last minute...the money would be better spent elswhere...imo

No offence to the bloke, and I will support him when and where he wears the claret and blue of the Villa, but come on Big names where are they? I feel this is a rush buy, still no news from either parties about the Dunne deal.
pksandell
He has not played more than 17 league games in a season for West Ham and only played more than 17 league games once for Cardiff, he seems very injury prone, but must try to look on the bright side a bit more, he is a CB, which is a rare thing at Villa Park, can't believe it has taken us 2 months to arrive at this though, damn doing it again, no it is good, very good isn't it, somebody tell me why it is good

hold your horses villa fans- this is the site that also said we had bid for upson a week ago- now i wish that one had been true. I just cannot get excited about this - lack of ambition

Lets be honest, Collins is absolute crap. We should have got Turner or Upson, not this chump

Am I missing something? have we replaced Laursen??? Please dont reply saying that Dunne is his replacement, as there is a gulf in difference between Dunne and Laursen!! I dont mind collins coming in as 4th choice but would prefer Upson instead of Dunne as he is nearer a Laursen type player.

Bring back Cahill!

Sky sports news has been absolutely abismal this Summer. From the Bentley"done Deal" to this one.... and its made itself look like its run by the same people that write the SUN... And its been the same for other clubs.... bring on tuesday at 5pm so the lies can stop for a week or two...

I've been saying Turner all summer, Hull are terrible and he still looks good, Taylor would also be good, buy these two and the summer will have been saved, it might even stop raining...

Confirmed, Turner has joined Sunderland from Hull. Disappointed we didn't get him. He's a decent defender who chips in with a few goals.

At first i thought oh my god, but having thought about it is not bad, he is gonna be 4th choice behind Dunne, Culler and Davies, you cant have 4 top quality centre backs cos it would be hard to keep em all happy, mon let Knight go cos he made silly mistakes yes Turner would be better but he aint wanna come to sit on the bench and his fee is over 10m. Culler will be top notch this season.

I have to say I'm not over the moon with Collins signing for us, but on the other hand, if Davies needs surgery, we're definetely better with Collins on our side as well...

turner aint that good, looked shocking this season so far and not a hard enough worker, collins will be a good 4th choice CB and is better than knight and that for me is improvement

Collins is a very underrated player. Ive seen him play a few times and hes ******** everywhere, imo better than all of your current crop of CBs, although that Clark looks a good prospect. Dunnes a donkey, looks good against poor teams but gets exposed by anyone remotley quick. I think youre a very solid team indeed and maybe a Van Der Vaart away from being a serious challenger, i just cant ever see MON buying someone of his stature. Still im very concerend youre gonna do well this year, my best mates a Villa fan and weve got 300 bishops on who comes higher Spurs or you guys lol

according to his wiki page he missed 9 months last season with a knee injury. If he's up to Mark Delaney's standard that will do me.

Nice to see Collins has been written off already and he hasn't even signed yet! Can someone name a CB as good as Laursen who would sign for villa? Thought not, so let's see if he can play before we make any judgements.

Oh, didn't Cahill leave because he thought he wouldn't get a regular start? So he joined Bolton who have a weaker team to guarantee games. Shame he's not as loyal as some of you are to him.

lovely Kuffit, No General but had you heard of Hangelaand before last summer, I'd like to think we could go out and find these players instead of Fulham, instead of just watching Match of the Day and picking our players from that

I agree about Hangelaand but how many mediocre CBs with good reputations abroad, have come to the premiership and been a bit rubbish? For every Hangelaand there are dozens of Coloccinis. Fulham got lucky, did you see Pantsil play? We might sign a player like him instead. I see what MON means now avbout the Championship Manager fans!

How about Laursen, Mellberg, for example, I've never played championship manager by the way, How many players have we bought from the premiership and not played, Knight, Harewood, Shorey unless injuries meant no choice, we have ran out of time so we are buying anyone who is available in desperation instead of having a plan

Didn't buy Shorey from Prem. Warnock only player bought from Prem so far this window. All the rest from Championship & League 1. Was there a reason a move for Mellberg never came up before he went to Greece? I play Champ Man (well Football Manager) & I found O'Neill's 'Championship Manager fans' comments hilarious coming a week after the club announced a partnership with them!

Ok! this is how i see it- manchester city, believe that villa are their closest rival & threat to champions league footy, so they agree to sell Dunne to said club (knowing that if we don't bring in a solid left footer we are in the ****) then at final hour pull the plug & reep the rewards.

Ok, but I think we based our assessment to buy Shorey on his prem appearances, and again like aleady mentioned Downing/Beye played all last season in the prem so bit much to say bought from championship, they haven't played in the championship, but you are right, the championship manager quote from MON was hilarious,

PS. i support MON 100%, it must be bloody hard to buy players in this market, especially when you can save a fortune in tax staying in europe!

You know York Villian that has occurred to me too, would be dastardly but unfortunately brilliant and what we leave ourselves open to by leaving everything so late, another thing is a snarl up on the motorway again tomorrow like a couple of days ago (8 hour delays) and then we end up with no-one, again leave ourselves open to this by leaving so late, unlikely but why leave to chance, this is championship management IMO

Has anyone here signed a professional footballer for a premier league club? If s I would love to hear how much work was involved. I have an inkling that that none of us really know what it all involves. The club aren't going to throw money at the situation like Citeh or the Sunderland, so they have to be little more judicious. Everton are in a similar boat and we were both top six last season so maybe it works. A great team will always beat a team of great players and that's the beauty of football.

A little more judicious, did you not read the post from the West ham fan they have a paper thin squad, they have no money and yet they have 6 CBs, so they are kindly letting us have one of them, we know we are not Man City but we would like to be able to compete in the market with the clubs at our level and we are not doing that this transfer window, Everton have bought CBs in a week since getting the Lescott funds, it has taken us 2 months and we still havn't signed a CB yet, you are right i have no idea how long it takes so all I can base my assessment on is what other clubs with similar resources manage to do.

A little harsh maybe, but I can't believe people defending Zat Knight! I'd say he gave 100% but definitely not above. I'd have considered him a liability in our defence. A player forwards could take advantage of. For all his height, he isn't that good in the air. As for Cahill, at the time I thought 5m was a great price for him - in hindsight I'd have held on to him and now would buy him back for 10m - but that's with hindsight which is harsh thing! I think Dunne isn't going to work out (amazed Mark Hughes wanted to ship him out - way better a player than Toure). Would love to have got him! Would be a lot happier with Collins than Knight, but Collins is not Laursen and NEITHER (definitely NOT) is Ceullar...... :( - not progressing in defence as far as I can see (with the exception of Clark but haven't seen enough there - fulham were pathetically week up front)

General Disarray - Can someone name a CB as good as Laursen who would sign for villa?

I can: DUNNE! And he's less injury prone (Bad season last season - true) MVP the previous four years for Man City! In essence he IS and has been for the past 5+ years Man City's answer to Laursen or Mellberg for us. I understand, that at 30 he has little or no sell on value, but the way in which he played with Micah Richards two seasons ago showed that he could use his experience to help a very VERY inexperience player play well outside himself! I honestly, 3000% believe Davis playing alongside Dunne would transform him into a Laursen/ Mellberg/ Dunne class defender! Dunne might not have a sell on value but I think Villa would recoup off Davis's sell on (A gamble, especially now Davis is injured - but all business takes gambles and I feel this is the most calculated choice)......
And I'm even cr*p at Championsip Manager ;D
