And Now...The End Is Near...! Transfer Talk!

And Now...The End Is Near...! Transfer Talk!

And now, the end is near....! 3 days to go.

The People claim that Portsmouth want to take Villa left-back Nicky Shorey on loan. I could believe this if it was January and Freddie Bouma was back and had proved his fitness but not until then surely? Don't we need depth in the squad? The report says Pompey wanted Shorey when we got him from Reading and he could now head south in the next 24 hours.

Shorey meanwhile said the arrival of Stephen Warnock from Blackburn Rovers is a 'challenge' adding 'A club like Villa are going to be signing players all the time in your position. You've just got to get on with it, do your best and hopefully you will get a game. If not, then we will wait and see what happens. But I am up for the challenge. I want to play football. That is my main aim and, if someone gets in the way, you've got to make sure you are playing better than them. That's all you can do. If we are playing well and winning, hopefully I will stay in the team.' Be interesting today, I would imagine Warnock will be straight into the team?

The Mirror has an exclusive claiming Eidur Gudjohnsen linked several times to Villa, has rejected an approach from Manchester City and three other Premiership clubs. The Barcelona striker is set to join Monaco instead.

The Daily Express claim that Richard Dunne will now be joining Villa having agreed a £6million pay off from Manchester City. Blimey, I wish I was a footballer! The report says he's got that much because he was due a testimonial next year and that Mark Hughes is letting him leave because he knows the soon to be former captain wouldn't have liked a bit role at the club.

Apparently Spurs, Sunderland and Everton also enquired. Petrov says it is 'great news' for Villa saying he is a 'big game player'.

The People meanwhile have an exclusive saying the deal is in jeopardy as a 'bitter row' over a golden handshake might mean the player won't move.

The Mirror claim that Everton are after Spurs winger David Bentley who earlier in the summer claimed he was in talks with Villa over a move. They claim that David Moyes is hoping he can get the player for around £10million.

Hammers boss and Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola has confirmed to Sky Sports that Villa have enquired about central defender James Collins. 'Villa have said they are interested in him, so we'll see what happens.'

Ummm, really not sure about James Collins, I suspect MON realises he's buggered up and is regreting selling ZK so he's having to spend £1M more that he got for Zat just for cover, that isn't great transfer business is it? I really hope we can sign a big name, Dunne is good but not what I'd call a big name signing. I haven't worked out the economics and I haven't got a crystal ball, but surely paying big in terms of a transfer fee and wages for one 'super star' would ensure VP was full(er) for the matches against smaller teams? Can't see it happening but I so wish it would.

What about signing some proper quality?Im not asking for world class players here,But an effort for hangeland or vermaelen would have done.I suppose i am being negative,Dunne and collins would do but will not push us on anywhere.

These links are dull. Let's hope MON pulls out all the stops to surprise with a real gem, a la Carew. Fingers crossed.
