MON On Dunne & Other Possible Transfers

Martin O'Neill says he will keep going in the quest to bring in new players to Villa right up to the bell on Tuesday 1 Sept at 5pm when the window slams shut...

He said: 'I have enquired about a number of players. We are trying. I will use all the financial backing that I have - I will utilise that. And I will take it right up to the end. After Tuesday, you can't do anything and you are left with what you have. I will try and get players in. We have a number in mind. We are hopeful of doing things.'

Adding that the impression he has from a few clubs is he should be in a position to talk some targets.

The official site has also updated the Richard Dunne situation confirming the Man City captain has looked around Bodymoor and had talks.

MON says the fee has been agreed but warns 'There's still some distance to go' explaining that until you sit down and talk to a player you can never tell.

'At this moment, he is happy with what he seen here but he hasn't signed yet. And obviously until things are signed, I won't get too carried away.

He also says that Dunne might want to stay at Man City and at the very least he could have things to 'iron out' up there (usually fees regarding contracts etc as he didn't ask for a move, Man City have given him permission to talk so it is at his request. I remember David James saying similar when he moved from Villa to West Ham. He had no wish to leave but after being told by Villa he could go and talk, he said he thought he better had, he still wasn't sure but the Hammers convinced him.

I'd rather have no-one than Richard Dunne. A trouble-maker ready to disrupt the locker room, thanks but no thanks. Stick to the Citeh bench! MON should swallow his pride & bring bk Gary Cahill. There's still a few days to unsettle then sign him.

his sleeve? it had better be a wizzards sleeve considering what we need before the window slams shut.

I agree with StuLinny I'm not sure about Dunne, I would love MON to sign any 2 from Cahill, Upson and Haageland plus a striker, (I dont think we need anymore midfielders)

don't know about Dunne's 'trouble making' rep? The fans seem to love him up there, certainly seems that way from the interview we did this week.

I would rather have a player which will improve the team like Upson. Mon needs to go and get a forward, playering Heskey is like playing with 10 men. Whats the point in having a forward which does not score goals. I could do that. Dunne is not wanted at Man city so why should we have him. Mon should start looking abroad for technically more gifted players then just english.

This is not the 80's you can't go out an pay over the oddds for players when you need them, you have to have a squad. We don't have 2 fit cb's let along a squad the guys a clown, he's been saying the same tripe for 4 seasons and still the numpties lap it up

Before i laughed about bringing in Jenas, i thought we was going to get either Helb, Defour, Sneijder or Van Daar Vart, right now i would love Jenas, and we need another CB and a striker.

It was Dunne who got disciplined from Man City for turning up for training still tanked up. People may say it was a while ago, but if he's done it once he's capable of doing it again. He's also always getting sent off. (Hopefully our European League exit may put him off.) Distin was the 1 who opted for Man City instead of Newcastle for an extra few grand even though Newcastle was offering him Champions League football. What ever happened to David Bentley? He was in talks ... then nothing.

it was 6 or 7 years ago. people grow up from a lot in 7 years and can you point to another disciplinary recently? club captain, player of the year four times...obviously a bad apple! also people mention his pace which is an absolute fallacy which basically comes from people who have never seen him play assuming that he's slow because he's so big. he apparently still holds the record for the fastest 100m at everton. he does hold the record for most red cards but thats the type of player he is and exactly what we need. man u wouldnt have wanted keane to hold back nor arsenal viera as they wouldnt be the same players and they hold the record with dunne.

don't think you can look back 6-7 years ago, we all change. The fan interview shows what an ambassador he has been in recent years, he grew up by the looks of it. As for Bentley, it was only him who said he was in talks, it was then denied by his agent!

StuLinney, sorry mate, but how can you criticise Dunne for turning up for training tanked up? and then ask about David Bentley? that little sod has just been done for drink driving.......

Kolo Toure was Arsenal captain & it's said that he was disruptive @ Arsenal, & Joey Barton was named Young Player of the Year. True he may not have had any problems off the pitch but he's still recieving fines for his constant poor discipline on the pitch. If he can't tackle & keeps getting sent off, why is he a defender? To compare with Keane/Viera is unfair because they are not the same player. You can be aggressive without being sent off. MON should drop his interest in Dunne & get in a better Englishman - Gary Cahill!

The fans should B entitled 2 know what is going on. And they shouldn't be allowed 2 'Undisclose' fees. Don't know why they do it. Is 1 side embarassed at what's been agreed? Then again I wouldn't disclose how much I paid for Beye either!

Yeah, who wants a CB who has been tanked up before, I remember a guy called Paul McGrath who once played for us, he actually didn't turn up for some games because he was out on a session, shocking, I hated that guy. As for Dunne, he is a great signing. As Fear has said, the Man Citeh interview showed that that was what Dunne was like years ago and that he is a massively reformed character, winning 4 player of the year awards in the last 5 years. And as for the comment about Citeh not wanting him there are 2 points. 1, they do, Mark Hughes has said he doesn't want to sell him, but Dunney understandably wants 1st team football. 2, of all the teams in the prem, Man City is the biggest that we cannot possibly compete with regards to what players they are bringing in. They can spend 24m on a centre back, we (and this goes for 99% of prem teams) can't.

Dunne is no McGrath! McGrath actually had talent. 4 Club Player Of The Season in 5 Years? Even City fans will tell you, that means 4 times out of 5 he was the best of a bad bunch. We don't need to spend 24m on a defender. Most of O'Neill's buys have been decent. (Heskey aside.)

martin oneils prudnece has cost villa big, by not buying early, villa struggled in the europa league due to a thinn squad (sending out injured defenders, curtis davis) he should have bought players in well b4 the start of the season, by trying to save a million here and their he has cost us 30 million by not qualifying for europe(sad times). whats is the point of having a billionaire owner i ask u, he is more suited to scotish football i think. and why is a cathlic irish man so interested in english players lol(who are fringe english players anyway). we need some class foreign players in our squad. sadly i cant see us getting into europe this season with the likes of tottenham and man city. 1 last note who is going to come to villa now as their is not even the promise of europe???????????? we need an arab billionaire not an american 1 lol

I reckon Dunne and Jenas is the only new faces we're gonna bring in even though we need a striker but who would you have that Villa would honestly attract.
