Villa Park Crowd To Be Rewarded

Aston Villa have released a statement to those who attended the Rapid Vienna game last night at Villa Park:

Aston Villa would like to thank all those who attended tonight's game against Rapid Vienna.

As we have not progressed to the Europa League group stages, we will be looking at other ways to reward fans for supporting the team in the second leg clash.

Nice gesture but I'm not sure we need to be rewarded for being fans and supporting our team, then again, I'm hoping it is a Tag Heuer watch... I'd be well made up!

Reward enough was the entertainment that the Rapid fans provided to be honest, they were nutters and God bless them for it, fantastic bunch!

If anything, I'd rather the money was spent making a donation to Acorns?

Talking about donations to Acorns....

If they were serious about rewarding the Villa faithful then they would commence immediately the task of reversing the stands to face in the opposite direction in order to alleviate your suffering .............. HA ...........!!!!

Fair play,I would think it is to stop the fans who went because of the free ticket thing moaning.Anyway i agree with the comments about the rapid fans,The did us fair and square and should of had 2 or 3 away goals on the night.Whereas we reverted back to relying on ashley young all the time.Never mind.

the comment from Wishaw bhoy was a joke and he is a Celtic fan. My comment in the article was a positive one, we are Villa fans, it is a lovely gesture but I'm not sure we need to be rewarded, being a Villa fan is reward enough, if they want to do something, a donation to Acorns would satisfy me personally far more than a free ticket to a cup game or whatever. Chill out ffs.

AVNath. They could try knocking out 'Championship' standard teams and getting through the qualifying rounds of 2nd rate European competitions - that might help us create something positive on this site! Just a thought!

lads to be honest, this could be the best thing that happened to villa, going out at this early stage is hard to take, as a spurs fan i was'nt too happy not qualifiing at the end of last season, but i have come round to the idea that this competition is poison chalice and takes it's toll on league form, so chin up and lets concentrate on dislodging arsenal and liverpool(or chelsea/man u) from the CL coz that is a competition that needs new blood.

lol Olofthegreat now there is an idea!

Brooksy you are right but would you liked to have gone and told them all to sit down? The stewards would have been mobbed! I remember years ago the announcement to Man City fans at Villa Park was for safety please sit down (most were at the time) next second the whole lot stood up... point made! lol... THing is, action is taken sometimes AFTER the game and against the club.

Why couldn't I get a drink at the game? Don't tell me it's UEFA rules; I watched the Everton game in the Czech Republic on TV and you could clearly see people drinking beer in the stands. Does this rule only apply in England?

YJ, I think you have mentioned the person who is moaning in your post. In fact the only contributors who constantly moan are those moaning about the fans... irony lost on thier very limited debating skills.

Must admit YJ, I didn't think I was moaning at all in the article, it was meant to be positive that being a Villa fan IS my reward (sick emoticon!) good or bad. REALLY nice that the club are looking to do something, I think the guys who run Villa are a class act and they know that. Funny some are all over moaning at the moment and slagging off the site because I have great relations with the people at the club and they appreciate the time and effort put in to promote the club, tickets etc all as part of the give and take of running these sort of sites. Makes me wonder if they read other sites because fans are fans, up when winning, down when not, it has always been the same. Footie is surely all about the debate and the crack, gettting bored now talking about whether the site is opti or negi or what, it is just a Villa site and in my opinion, a bloody good one with loads of different opinions, a good few hundred articles a month and some very good posters, both opti and suicidally negi! lol

It is strange Fear that there are a certain minority on hear just telling everyone to stop moaning and whinging without so much as telling us their point of view or offering a different opinion. Much in the same way there is a small minority who hate MON and want him to go. Either way the vast majority in the middle want the Villa to succeed and move forward, competing and winning every game. This is done by debating how they would change things or suggest players who would improve the team etc... This is what we all do every week down the pub, at work and during games with our mates (those who have them). However, both the minorities are damaging the club and highlighting a point which is pretty insignificant. Some on here should try roaming to other clubs sites and see that all football fans are the same as us and debate and discuss the very same issues we do here on Vital Villa. We might be able to move on as adults and actually discuss points rather than attack someone because they donít have the ability to read and respond to a point appropriately.

How 'bout another free meal? I know there would be a lot of Villan's to feed, but didn't the Messiah feed the five-thousand with a handful of loaves and fish? Let's see him walk on water against Fulham!

I think the gesture is good PR and a reward for the fans that put in the money and effort to go. it was also very noticeable that there was no booing, even at the end. This minor point I think reveals something very interesting. The crowd of just 22000 was most likely made up of the most ardent of supporters. The real fans with the good of the club at heart. The part timers who couldn't be bothered to support the club last night, can now be revealed as the so called supporters that give the rest of us a bad name and are obviously the boo boys. Typical that those that put the least in are the ones that bring down the tone of the club. A further point on supporters. Last night I sat in the middle of the Trinity in the posh seats and didn't hear any negativity at all. Infact I didn't hear anything other than 1300 Vienna fans who never stopped singing all night and from where I was sitting they nearly all appeared topless. They were without question the best away supporters that I have ever seen at Villa Park. As for the vocal support for the Villa it can best be described as pathetic. The Holte barely made a noise all night and the Trinity Road support is without doubt the most souless, passionless and unbelievably quiet that I have ever known at any football ground, bar none. Being a football fan is about being part of and contributing to the occasion. Last night the game wasn't a bad one but from the Trrinity Road it seemed dull. If fans actually got involved it would transform Villa Park and make every game more enjoyable for the fans and the players. When in truth what happens is people come and sit on their bit of plastic, watch the game and then leave. Players want to play in front of noisy, passionate supporters and we do nothing to encourage good players to sign for us. As I have said on many occasions we are competing at the top end of the table, not because of us, but inspite of us. It is the fans that will prevent this club from ever really taking off. If we were judged by the effort we put in to making the club successful we would be in a relegation battle every season.

Hear hear Hoss The Villain, I totally agree. I think the majority on here debate reasonably and voice their concerns when they feel they need to. As for the game, well I'm gutted we're not in Europe because we should be competing there but at the same time, I think we don't have enough strength in depth to compete on so many fronts. Last season's collapse was surely down to having too many games and too thin a squad outside our first choice XI. I know it's an old cliche/joke to say "well now we can concentrate on the league" and the domestic cups but I think it's true this season. Just my opinion..

hey voice, I try my best in the Trinity, there is only so much banging of the boardings a man can do! lol.... It is a shame, the crowd just never got going but then, the Rapid fans were outstanding. Got a thread in the forum asking if we need a drum or something to get things going!?

lol voth :) honestly, who would we replace MON with ? Name a better manager who's available ? So he might need some help in the transfer market - I think most of us would agree there. ut calling for his head is just daft. Where were we before he took over ?

I keep saying Barry Fry but no-one fecking listens... ! Not saying sack him, he has to have this season but I think people are kidding themselves if they think we wouldn't have a quality managers all interested in the job, don't downplay the potential of Villa, potential new managers wouldn't and as one of our former Managers say, the attraction is always 'what if I can be the one to bring back the good times' (forget which former manager said it, we've had enough of them!)
