Stephen Warnock Signed, Sealed and Speaking

Stephen Warnock Signed, Sealed and Speaking

Not as good as the Delph headline is it! Warnock has signed a four year deal and was presented on the pitch ahead of the Rapid Vienna game.

The transfer fee is rumoured to be £6 million, and he will be playing in the No 25 shirt for the remainder of the season.

Speaking on the official site after the announcement, Warnock said he was relishing the chance of breaking into the Top 4 with Villa and he intimated that he was slightly jealous seeing us challenge for 4th place and a Champions League spot before we finally blew it at the tail end of the season...he wants to be in the position to help us sustain a challenge in the future.

Warnock had a watching brief last season as Martin O'Neill's men flirted with Champions League qualification for the majority of the season.

He now wants to be part of the renewed bid to go a step further.

'The main aim is pushing for that top four spot. That's the ambition.

'The manager is buying some really talented players - young and ambitious - and I'm sure they will see that top four spot as a target and goal.

'Playing in Europe is important - playing against the top players on the continent is fantastic - and there's no better stage to do that than on the Champions League.

'If we could do that, it would be a great achievement.'

Welcome to the club Stephen, I hope we aren't finished yet!

'Playing in Europe is important - playing against the top players on the continent is fantastic' - Not here son. Look forward to Sunday league tactics, long ball football and a relegation dogfight. Enjoy.
