Well done to MON, I actually think Dunne is a cracking player. And there will be some competition for the CB places which can be no bad thing. UTV - Pride of the midlands

Good solid bunch of lads. You should start a poll to see how many red cards or own goals we think he will score. :)

All bodies are good bodies at this point however, we see a couple of players waiving Villa Shirts and the call will swiftly turn to more quality players lol

Still think we need another centre half a creative midfielder and a 4ward would love to see Tuncay.

Have to say, I'd be disaapointed if we didnt make a move for Tuncay, yes a "luxury" player, but what we need, especially at home!

He played well the other day but he wasn't MONs first choice! Must be half decent to be made captain even if it was only for a midtable team but I'm far from convinced that this will take us forward.

We agreed a fee with Pompey for Distin aswell and then end up with 2nd/3rd/4th best !! I know that we had to wait for other teams to get in replacements and Man Citeh have dictated proceedings with their vast funds, but surely we should have been trying to force the issue with a couple of other team's players well before this!

Expect Dunne to receive his fair share of yellow and red cards, nevetheless he's a quality player. Well done Villa.

Distin to sign for Everton subject to a medical. Would have preferred Dunne so I'm happy with that. Need to stop Tuncay signing for Stoke tho just like we did with Beye and Hull

I can't see him as first choice over Curtis or Carlos, at best he's probably a decent squad player to give us some defensive cover.

Not his biggest fan I'm afraid, in fact far from it, but once he signs on the dotted and becomes one of us, then he will be guaranteed my 100% support and encouragement. His experience I admit has to be a huge plus for us at the back, and I think that Curtis in particular will benefit from playing alongside the guy. I dont think that he's come here to sit on the bench, why would he? He could do that at Manchester City, and probably pick up more money for doing so. He has his faults, and some of his failings concern me, but hey, thats just my opinion, and he may well turn out to be the right player at the right time. Love the post DO'L. Had me laughing, and the way this day has gone so far, that's no mean accomplishment. Right, Welcome Richard Dunne, now off to B6 to see us turn this 1-0 deficit around.

Is he our Laursen replacement? Will we buy another CB? I'm unsure if he's an improvement other than adding squad depth - but I'd like to be proved wrong. Upson would be my choice.

to be honest, i think he's always played better for country rather than club. If, when he pulls on a claret and blue shirt, he shows the same pride and passion that he shows for Ireland, then he's gonna be a solid buy! and we've a good record when it comes to irish players ..... after all the greatest villa defender in history was from the emerald isle ! forget 'laursen' replacement ... maybe he'll be the new 'Paul McGrath'! ..... (OK, I know, I'm getting carried away with the excitement of all this talk of 2 new defenders coming in..... i'm feeling light headed, I need to go and lie down....!)

Gutted with this signing. No pace, overweight & let's not forget his poor discipline on & off the field. (It may be the qualities to be made captain of Citeh but I personally thinks it's a bad apple.) Worst of all, he's not ENGLISH. O'Neill again going against his beliefs. Instead of signing a young good English player he's signing an old, crap johnny foreigner. Still, the Warnock signing is good.

There's still a chance Dunne mans up & stays to fight for his place @ Citeh. (I doubt it.) I'd have been happy for us to have got Wheater, Matt Mills or even Mancienne on loan.

"We are looking to try and reinforce the team between now and the transfer deadline and bring people in with experience and a bit of know-how," said O'Neill. "That is my intention and whatever is available for us, I will attempt to do. "Is the Dunne deal close? No, nothing is remotely close at all."
