How Would You Feel If Villa Lost In Europa?

Ok, so our very own Sheriff Kimbo submitted a poll which I didn't have time to get round to using as I wanted to do the normal win/lose/draw poll today as I always do before matches.

However his questions were interesting and I was hoping - WITHOUT a big to-do or fall out or personal comments obviously (!) if we could all discuss where we stand with the Europa league and the match tonight.

His suggested question was How would you feel if we lost and went out of the Europa league tonight

options were:

If we go out of Europe, how do you view it:
Relief. The squad can't cope!
Indifferent. Well, look at last season...
Disappointed, but it will help us in the league.
Gutted. One less chance to win a trophy.
It's an absolute disaster!

For me, I'd be fine about going out, as long as we give 110% with a decent side put out. I'm easy to keep happy really, just want to see the proper effort and all games taken seriously, I think both will be the case tonight and I'm looking forward to getting down there, might even re-test that the pies are good!

Reminder of the offer for tickets: Villa Bogof in Europe

I always want us to win, but it might be a blessing in disguise as there's no way our paper thin squad could cope. Who would've thought it'd come to this?

I think a low gate tonight will say it all , fans moan about MON throwing it but don't bother going to games . I'm one of the very few who think he did right last season , what he did wrong was not explain why to the players and didn't go for it during the transfer window in Jan only buying Heskey. Still have not got the squad have we ?

Its good experience for the youngsters and we should play the reserves in half of these games. May also give MON the chance to learn how to rotate if we stay in.

i'd be somwhere between indifferent and disappointed. Indifferent because of last seasons moscow farce and i'm not sure if push came to shove that our priorities would be any different this time around. and disappointed because i always am when we lose or go out of a competition. but on balance i'd agree with you fear, as long as the lads give a decent account of themselves and give 100+% i think i'd be generally happy.

It would be embarrassing though losing to Rapid Vienna at Villa Park. Oh god...come on Villa!

Would like to see a couple of the youngsters that impressed during pre-season given a game tonight.

Personaly I would be gutted as I feel we should try to win it. The first name on a new cup as with the league cup. Then the super cup in Monaco. Fantastic venue. I'm going to this years tomorrow night

If we go out it would benefit our attempts on finishing in the top four this season which will be more difficult than last. If we don't then it gives us something to look forward too and exciting cities to visit. If we do go out, last season would of been a total waste of time and all that effort almost worthless.

I'd be gutted if we went out to be honest. I know we don't have the squad to compete on all fronts but that can be rectified. We should put our strongest team out and try to win everything and evaluate where we are in January. Hopefully if we're doing well in most competitions - we could actually buy a few players and push on.... Or am I dreaming???

i dont think it would be the end of the world if we dont get through and would proberbly help our league campain but its also fairly important to get through in order to help our young side develop and european compertision helps player become better as they are playing close to international style football

I'd be gutted - if we're not going to give the Europa a serious go, the efforts we have to put in to finish in the top 6 are for nothing. It is almost impossible for us to win the league and very unlikely that we finish in the top 4, so if we don't strive to finish in a Europa place, what's the point?

Can't believe these comments. It is an absolutely vital game. If we go out then the opportunities for Albrighton, The Fonz, Baker, Delph, Bannan and Guzan will shrink and their possible break through to the first team will be dependent on injuries and failure. The group stages of the Europa League provide the opportunity to give such experience. Tonight's game is vital. Still think we will then be stronger if we play a couple of the youngsters against Fulham on Sunday too!

I'd be very disappointed if our european campaign ends this evening. As someone who journeyed to Antwerp to watch our very first competitive game in europe, and experienced and thoroughly enjoyed the european games of the late seventies and early eighties, I believe that a club like ours needs to be involved with competitive european club football, season upon season. Aren't we always told that players want to test themselves on the european stage, that being involved in european football helps attract players into the club? Surely playing against the best that europe has to offer, has to be of benefit to our players, helping to make us better equipped for the week in/week out rigours of the domestic game? Apart from that, I enjoy the games, enjoy seeing these clubs who until they step out onto the Villa Park turf are little more than mere names to me.

It won't break my heart if Villa go out, as I still believe the squad isn't good enough to go on and win it. The league should be the priority. Rafa Benitez would probably swop that night in Istanbul, for the League title. European campaigns are special though, even The Tournament Formerly Known As The UEFA Cup. They live on in club folklore, allow fans to experience continental Europe, and provide a welcome diversion from the goldfish bowl of English football. I watched Citeh v Hamburg on telly last season. Great game, terrific atmosphere. Both sides played like their lives depended on the outcome. Made me wish the Villa were still in it.

for me it would be really gutting if we went out tonight as at the end of the day europe is what you play for all year in the premier league and to go out at the first stage would just seem like a year wasted to me and we we know it will be harder to get back in to europe this year, cant wait to watch the game tonight and i am hoping that we take the confidence from the other night at anfield into this game and the signing of steven warnock before hand will surely be a boos UTV

I do like the European evenings, should be a good atmosphere and if we progress, it always gets better and better. Obviously another important issue is if we win tonight, we are still trying to sign players and therefore still have Europe to offer them.

I am in Glensiders camp on this one. I want to win the Europa Cup, FA Cup, League Cup, Premiership, Fair Play league, Eurovision Song Contest and every single competition we can. Other than two more centre halfs and a quality addition in midfield, we now have more than two players for every position in the team. And should we get three more players to cover these positions I think we can dispel the 'small squad' rubbish. We should be going all out to win every competition and should rest one or two players in almost every game we play in order to keep the squad fresh. Making wholesale changes to give fringe players a game hasn't worked. For example, giving Ashley a break tonight will do no harm, but making 4 or 5 changes to Mondays team will pointless.

Good effort tonight I thought, signs of improvement but I have to say 4-4-2 and Heskey - not a winning combination, I've said it before and I'll say it again Heskey is a useless waste of space and a distraction, sell him!!!

I'll no fan of Emule either.... We never seem to do well when he's involved. Portsmouth aside...
