Transfer Talk - 6 Days To Go... GULP!!!

Well, it is the business end of the transfer window fast approaching, only 6 days including today to go! Could be in for some nice surprises with luck!

The Daily Mail today are claiming that Birmingham City might be after Middlesbrough striker Tuncay for around £5million. As most will know, we've been regularly linked with him as well as the two Boro defenders David Wheater and Robert Huth with the lack of good strikers around and having not gone for Darren Bent I really hope (and yes, it doesn't matter a jot what I or anyone else hopes, only what the manager wants!) that we don't see a playmaker/striker like Tuncay leave for elsewhere for such a low price!

James Nursey at The Mirror has us linked with a 'double swoop' for Blackburn Rovers defender Stephen Warnock and Manchester City Captain Richard Dunne.

The report says we've agreed to pay £6.5m + add ons for Warnock and will pay £6m for 29-year-old Dunne. Wages of around £52 000 are mentioned, how a player is meant to live on poultry earnings like that a week is pretty much beyond me, I'd say that was tountermount to slave labour and maybe us fans could have a collection to supplement it?!

Another report suggests MON might offer Dunne the captaincy to attract him to Villa Park..

Will ask the Vital City guys for an interview like I did re: Warnock and Distin!

Erm, Dunne as captain? He's not worth it. He's a good defender but Reo Coker has deserved that armband for villa longer than Dunne. Distin and Warnock are both brilliant buys. Anyway forget Dunne, Why let Everton move for Hangeland?

I don't think Distin will come, he looks Everton bound. Which isn't a bad thing; he doesn't attack the ball well enough for me, he provides the same kind of service that both Cuellar and Davies do - ie, the sweeping (no, not like a janitor, doofus)

Oh & totally agree on Tuncay. If we sign a good centre-back & Warnock, that'll keep me happy enough but if we was to sign Tuncay then I'd look at that as a very good end to the horror that is the transfer window

I think we should go all out for Haageland at the back because he is real quality (laursen type) and with Bouma nearly fit to play CB and luke young back soon beye can also play CB.

Personally I'd like to see Upson here. I think Dunne can be mistake prone and both he and Hageland are susceptible to being turned, esp. on a high line. I'd like Distin, but I've also read his attutude can be dubious which wouldn't go down too well at VP. I'm not really sure we need to bring in 2CBs with full compliment of fullbacks, but I don't know exactly how bad Curtis's shoulder is. With any luck we'll brin in a player with some attacking emphasis too, but I'm not sure MON see's this as particularly vital. Fear, like you I'd have thought Bent would have been ideal here and would even have been ok with a deal that saw JC going the other way. Should be an exciting few days!

Think Haageland has said he is staying at Fulham this season. I agree RoyalVilla think Upson would be very good for us, very solid. Not sure about Dunne straight in as captain (it is press talk mind you) I would think that would put other players noses out of joint? Personally IF NRC is going to be used regularly, I'd make him captain, he does try to organise the troops!

Haageg-ge-eg-land would not be value for money if you consider what fulham have been supposedly quoting as a value. Upson link seems to have gone dead which is a shame (maybe a deadline day deal there?!) And I agree with Sheriff about Dunne over Distin for his 'attack the ball' qualities to replace Laursen. Tuncay would give us a different dimension and some much needed quality when we need to rotate the squad. I'd still like to see Bentley in the squad but I fear Everton will grab him on deadline day and we will rue the missed opportunity to revive a quality player. Future looks bright any hoo!

if we are happy to pay 12m for upson who is at the wrong end of his careea and lescott can be sold for 23m then why is what fulham are asking for hangeland not value for money Mikey D-Man? hes younger and better than then pair and if i was a manager id be more than happy to pay 15-20m for him! apart from rio, terry, vidic hes prob the best defender in the leauge and ecsactly the type of defender we need!!!!!! plus hes scandanavian and look at the class defenders weve already seen at villa park from that area for the world id rather him than anyone FACT

I agree that Dunne is slightly error prone, but he's got the right amount of aggression to him, he's got a bit of bite and he'll go and stick his head where it hurts, which is exactly what we need. I wouldn't be especially suprised if we end up getting both him and Distin to be honest, but I don't think we should pay over the odds for Distin, his best days are beyond him. Tuncay would add another dimension to our attack, without a doubt, he's a decent player and has an excellent work ethic, although he doesn't seem especially up for it in the championship. Although I'd like to see Warnock in a Villa shirt, you have to feel for Shorey, who's always played with a bit of gusto. There's a lot to be said for somebody who's been in and out of the side and although his performances have sometimes been a little mediocre, they've never been bad and his head's never dropped, he's always got on and tried his best.
