The Villa Times - 26/08/2009

Unoial Villa News...

Aston Villa have confirmed on the official site that they are in talks with Blackburn Rovers over left back Stephen Warnock. More information as we get it...

Vital Villa member Stig asked the General as to the health and progress of Wilfred Bouma and GK was able to update us all saying: 'I asked about Bouma today. He was working out on Friday...and looked good. We will bring him along slowly...get a few good practices and maybe a couple of reserve games under his belt before we ask him to join the 1st team. He has been a superb 'patient' and has been working very hard to get well.' Full details and a great story about Wilf: Wilfred Bouma - What A Legend!

The official site say that Ashley Young is racing to be fit for Villa's game against Rapid Vienna after he twisted his knee v Liverpool. MON said: 'Ashley is very sore but he is feeling a lot better. We are hoping he willl be available for Thursday but we're not certain.'

Vital Villa's last poll was for the man of the match v Liverpool: Before I give the results... and I know you can't wait...!.... can I just say.... Oh the look on Ickle Stevie's face when he gave away the penalty... PRICELESS!!!! Anyway, no surprise as far as I'm concerned, Nigel Hokey-Cokey won with a full bloodied performance, the guy looked like he had a point to prove and proved it very nicely! He got 59% of the vote. Next up was Brad Friedel with 26%. That is the best I've seen him play in a Villa shirt, more of that this season please Brad! Full results: Man Of The Match v Liverpool

Acorns Go on, just a quid! ;o)

Steve Sidwell is looking to the Villa faithful to be the 12th man v Rapid Vienna: 'There's nothing better than a stadium when the fans are up for it and you can really feel their drive and determination. It really gives me a lift. It raises your game. Their fans were fantastic over in Vienna. I am sure our fans at Villa Park will be right behind us and will roar us to victory.'

Our latest poll, suggested by JohnMurphy, asks if John Carew is fit for Thursday night, would you change the winning team to put him straight back in?

Had this from a member who I've not seen post before lee9679: I can confirm that the legend that is John Carew is going nowhere and there has been no bust up with Martin O'Neill. Can't reveal my sources but he has just signed a 12 month renewal on his city centre apartment, and confirmed that his recent injuries and illness have all been legitimate and he couldn't be happier. He's hoping to be involved against Rapid tomorrow night, despite turning his ankle in training earlier today. The rumours that he stormed out after (or before!) the Wigan game are also untrue - he actually met with MON and his agent to discuss an extension to his contract. UTV...end... Thought it was worth putting into the VT as opposed to its own article because part of this flies totally in the face of what an 'insider' might or might not have said to me about just one part of this. I'm quite sure he does have a virus though, hopefully if he has turned his ankle that won't prove to be a bad injury and that he will be able to report fit for the Rapid Vienna game Thursday night.

Richard Dunne in and Sylvain Distin to Everton? Well, that is what the press are saying today + MON on the hunt for new players: Transfer Talk, MON On Window - Just Scrap It!

Brad Friedel, my man of the match, said: 'It was just a tremendous evening. Compare it with our performance last season - we didn't turn up, we got trounced 5-0 and I got sent off. We came here with our backs up against the wall. I accept it's early doors but the press hasn't been fantastic to us over the past week or so. We knew we had to get off the mark quickly but to do so at Anfield is a fantastic achievement from the boys. It was great from all the lads. The defensive effort from them all was there to see and I thought we did tremendously well. Everyone was outstanding.'

Sexist thought for the day: How are fat girls and mopeds alike? They're both fun to ride until your friends find out. (Do I need to be apologising for that one?!)

surely distin will be stopping off at Villa Park on his way North. I am sure we will wrap the deal up before he has the chance to get back on the M6.

Just so you know, and don't make the same mistake again, Ickle Stevie did not give away a penalty.
A judge and jury made up from liverpool supporters have studied the video evidence and decided that Stevie was acting in self defence. Stevie's 6 mates who were at the same establishement, all be it in the crowd, pleaded guilty to giving the penalty away.
Stevies wife has expressed her concern stating Liverpool was too rough.

One minor point about the Ashley Young injury at Anfield the other evening if I may. Carragher was totally out of order when he attempted to pull Ashley up from the floor, presumably believing that Ashley was feigning injury. That was completely irresponsible on Carraghers behalf. He had no idea as to the extent of Ash's injury, and could have caused considerably more damage by his actions. That happened to Gary Shaw at The City Ground, Nottingham, when Gary, down injured, was hauled to his feet by a Forest player, despite the fact that Gary was clearly hurt, and that was the start of Gary's serious knee problems from which he never fully recovered. What a good start to the new campaign by our second string. A very impressive 4-0 victory at Brentford against Chelsea, looks like they are in for another successful campaign.

agreed glensider, Carragher was well out of order, maybe Ashes reputation is preceeding him now but then, their lot aren't above a bit of diving and in this case, Ash didn't dive!
