Wilfred Bouma - What A Legend!

Vital Villa member Stig asked the General as to the health and progress of Wilfred Bouma and GK was able to update us all saying:

'I asked about Bouma today. He was working out on Friday...and looked good. We will bring him along slowly...get a few good practices and maybe a couple of reserve games under his belt before we ask him to join the 1st team. He has been a superb 'patient' and has been working very hard to get well.'

Stig came back with a nice story about Wilfred Boom Boom Bouma:

'General: On Bouma, does he know how much we love him? if not can you pass on our regards? It just hasn't been the same without our Boom-Boom. Moreover, pleasant story on Bouma as a true gent and role model for our club:

A pal at work was in Bamboo last season on a Saturday night, and while at the bar trying to get served he was aware of a bloke next to him who was waiting patiently, and by rights before my pal to get served next. The bar man came over, went to serve my pal, and he pointed to the man next to him, gesturing he was next. Then realising the bloke next to him was Bouma, Bouma proceeded to tell the bar man to serve my pal first. He got chatting to Bouma at the bar while waiting for his drinks, exchanged banter when he told Bouma he was a Cov fan, and to his surprise Bouma was well aware of the history between the clubs, which was pleasant enough. But then when my pal went to pay the bar man for his full round, which was around £30, Bouma intervened and told the bar man to put the drinks on his tab.

What a legend, and my pal said what a humble, genuinely nice guy Freddie is.

Cant wait to see him back in the shirt.'

Seems a very long time since we last Bouma play, it would be like Mellberg coming back, return of a fan favourite.

I really hope he comes back to (or somewhere near) his old self, and stays injury free for the last few seasons of his career, I think he deserves it. One of my absolute favourite players, I think he had really started to improve his attacking play over his last full season as well. It will be interesting to see if MON has any plans to use him as CB (can't see it myself, but just saying) if Warnock is coming in. Whatever happens, I will just be delighted to see him back in a Villa shirt. BBBBOOOOUUUUMMMMAAAA!!!!

I really hope he come back , but by judging todays news, he may be someway off fitness. Unless he plays CB like he did for Netherlands a few times, fingers crossed.

Similar thing happened with Merson in O'Neills, Sutton a few years ago, my mate told him that he was a legend and Merse bought a whole round in for the lads.

Wasn't Bouma a CB before we "converted" him? We now have to LBs, so maybe Bouma is the illusive CB we've all been crying out for?

From no full backs to a team of full backs if Freddie gets back. Feel a bit sorry for Shorey if he is the fall guy. A decent footballer imo who in the last couple of matches shows he has a brain in his head and can pick out a pass. You cant knock Freddie for his defensive work but he cant cross the road and very rarely got forward to good effect. With Warnock now on board (where is MON actually thinking of playing him?) I cant see Shorey being here beyond Jan if WB gts back to fitness

I hope Freddie makes it back to full first team football at B6. He is a 100% footballer, good luck to the bloke.

I was just wondering why we love Freddy so much. Sure, he's a decent defender but as pointed out, he's not great going forward. Then it struck me, he's a good, old fashioned, blood and guts, 100% footballer. He NEVER backs down, give 100% all the time and at the same time retains his integrity and humility. He is the reason most of us love football, a true footballing hero!
