Ooohhhhh, the Hokey-Cokey...

Ooohhhhh, the Hokey-Cokey...

I had written us off. I had explained to the the good few Liverpool fans at work, that Aston Villa would get trounced tonight, as happens so often at Anfield.

Apart from the first ten or fifteen minutes, I couldn't have been proven more wrong by our lads. One, as the title hints at, was monumental.

Reo-Coker has been waylaid over the last eighteen months or so at Villa Park and a few thought he could even leave in the summer. Tonight he was first to absolutely everything, beating the Liverpool players to the ball by inches, then driving on after that.

That's the sort of athleticism and dynamism we were missing in the final third of last season. He may not be the best footballer technically, but he more than makes up for it in work-rate, strength and pace. The pressure he put on the Liverpool players was immense. His work for the penalty was top class in my opinion.

Two poor results, one brilliant result. We need some more bodies still, but I reckon we have, in Reo-Coker, someone who is as good as a new signing.

spot on, he gets a hard time and unjustified as he is out of position half the time, tonight he looked like he had a point to prove and again, for me, proved it!

Not being clever after the fact. I've said before that we have seen this from NRC during the pre season. He did what Mascherano is supposed to be great at doing. He not the best passer but I'll forgive a few mis placed passes if he puts in a shift like that everytime.

Can't see NRC being sold. If I played like that today, after not playing in first game I would have chucked my shirt in the crowd for to cement the adulation I had just earned. We need to build a squad not get 1 in and 1 out. And the squad needs to rotate. Well played mate, you're like a rotweiler (mascherano more like a jack russel yap yap yap)

Step up time: NRC was epic tonight!! An utterly fantastic performance! Also Davies, Friedal, Shorey and Happy Days all stepped up and it was a great night!!! Wow!! Maybe MON was right and we don't need to replace Barry just yet and NRC can take the reigns! If he keeps firing like he did tonight then he could even make the England Squad for the World Cup (okay, I'm getting a littel ahead of myself ;-) he was explosive tonight!!!

bones- spot on mate , reo was quality in pre season and i was gutted he didn´t start against wigan , he proved tonight he should be first name down on the team sheet for the next game . He never moaned about being played at rb last season , just got on with it , which shows that he is the type of player we want in our side . I have a smile a mile wide on my boat tonight as watched the game in my local in valencia surrounded by scousers and watching them crying in to their pints has me a happy chappie !!!! C´MON YOU LIONS

Although you are correct in your assertion that Reo Coker was outstanding I would add that he was allowed to be outstanding because of the hard work put in by Petrov and Sidwell. The 3 of them together made a great 3. Leave one of them in (probably Petrov) and bring in Gardner and Delph on Thursday for Rapid then go back to NRC, Petrov and Sidwell for Fulham. Perhaps MON has fallen over a midfield combination that the unwashed masses have been calling for for months. BTW .. even Shorey did OK tonight because 5 in midfield meant tha he could play as a real left back rather than as a 3rd centre-half which he is required to do in 4-4-2.

Sorry Randy but i live in Leeds and watched Delph 3 times a week, he is far from Prem level and should really be loaned out for the next 2 years into the championship, he can only last 10 mins a game at the moment, he is VERY lazy, he is a Defensive mid for those who think he is a good attacking player too

I don't see how any of the above posts are being hypocritical. For 3 seasons NRC has been played out of position, in and out of the side, never knowing when or where he would be playing. He FINALLY gets a chance in his best position and has shown us what he can do. Fair play to him, let's just hope he gets a decent run in the side now.

In that formation he did a good job BUT he still gave the ball away countless times and even had a shot from 25 yards which was a complete waste of time along with his pointless booking. Saying that the fight and determination he shows is infectious!!
