Monday's Transfer Talk - 9 Days To Go!
9 days to go...
According to reports today Everton are set to sell Joleon Lescott to the Man City £ullies and will have funds for a replacement centre back. The Times says Bolton Wanderers (grumble grumble) defender Gary Cahill as well as supposed Villa targets Robert Huth and David Wheater are being considered. Shame Cahill isn't under consideration for a return to Villa, so much better than any defender brought in since his departure!
The Mirror claim Villa are set for a second raid on Newcastle United with a bid for England U21 central defender Steven Taylor.
The report says Taylor has impressed for the Under-21s and made a name for himself, but his form has been mixed for Newcastle during their last year of troubles.
The Mirror also claim that Martin O'Neill ran the rule over Wigan's Austrian defender Paul Scharner. You've got to smile at the timing, Man Utd ripped them apart 5-0. I had thought he was there to make a check on Rooney before bidding! ;o)
The Telegraph repeat the link to West Ham defender James Collins who we apparently want for £5million. Forum thread on the link: Click Here
Another in The Mirror claims that Big Sam of Blackburn Rovers has set a 48-hour deadline for Villa to sign Steven Warnock. Reports are as yet unconfirmed that MON feinted at the thought of making a signing so quickly! :o)
The report says that Villa wanted to pay £8m and thought they'd get the player in time for tonight's game against Liverpool but that Rovers want more dosh.
And on Vital Blackburn: Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce has insisted left back and Aston Villa target Stephen Warnock was left out yesterday as he wasn't mentally ready for the game and he won't sell Stephen on the cheap. Allardyce Explains A Twist In The Warnock Tale
Wesley Sneijder who it now seems was rather fancifully linked to Villa this summer, says: 'I want to play at Real Madrid. I don't want to leave because I know I am capable of being an important part of this team.'
