'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Future Is POTENTIALLY Bright

AstonVillaFC is fighting to be positive:

Optimism...

Is it worth it?

I have been and to some extent remain to be an optimist. It just gets harder and harder though. Here are some of my thoughts from this summer...

We lost Barry! 'Oh its fine, will allow us to play with a more mobile and free scoring midfield'

We lost Laursen! 'We have 2 quality centre halves (in my opinion) and will surely be signing some top quality competition'

We don't have enough goals! 'It's ok there are plenty of goals coming from midfield, and Gabby and Big John will score plenty!'

While we haven't acted as quickly or as effectively as possible, we have signed some good players. Delph was tracked by half of the Premier League, Downing when fit is a full English international, Beye is fairly highly rated, and what can we say about Marshall!!(most certainly tongue in cheek on that last one).

Through all that waffle my point is that we have problems, and the centre of defense is certainly one of them. We do however have a fairly good squad of players at the club right now, with the potential for more in the final week or so of the window. We also have some of the most highly rated English youngsters at then club, and more coming through the Youth teams.

The future is POTENTIALLY bright.

With a bit of money spent in this coming week, along with some luck and a lot of belief and support from us, the fans, as well as the team, we will hopefully have another positive season challenging the upper echelons of the top league in the world!! :D

It could be worse you could be outclassed twice in a week, and have 1 CB at the club who can play before Novemeber, and he's ******** off on his holidays to the African nations in january. I comparison to us, your CB options are far, far better.

must admit I said in the forum that I think Everton will be like us this season, struggling to keep up what we tried last season. Hope I'm wrong on both counts but think it is going to be a tricky one us watching Man City and Spurs taking 'our' places.

strange how both clubs that have done so well over the last 2 seasons in really similar positions. Think positive for Monday night and till the close of the transfer window.

Im sure Everton Mike wont begrudge us a victory against the red eighth of Liverpool!!! What we have is here and now, we cant change that tomorrow, we have to get behind the squad 100 percent. Ask yourselfr trully can we win tomorrow. Twelve months ago you would have said yes (not after our last Liverpool drubbing in the seasons fenarlee). Take away two players out of that same eleven and suddenly we are at odds and ends. The maths doesnt add up. We are due a big win and what better way to cement our intention this season than turning it around at Anfield. Get behind the squad for this game and if it turns out Pete tongue we can make our feelings known after. Vocals before this big game is not productive. Rest assured we are not going to do it with the fans against the team at the blow of the first whistle. At some point we will have to produce a big win, we have to why not tomorrow?

We aint going to do it with a side that is weaker than the one beaten 5-0 last season either. Cant believe we have turned into a shambles so quickly.

I'm in such a good mood after the ashes win I'm going to predict a miracle for tomorrow that we won't get completely embarrassed, although I don't really believe it, i'm going to try to be positive, my heart is willing to cling to anything, although my head says 'fool'

I'd would love us to get a decent result tomorrow. It's a good article and we do have a bright future. It's just fustrating that 6th place in the league last season, pundits praising Villa, nuetrals supporting Villa, this transfer window was a great chance to take a big step towards cementing ourselves in a top 5. But players like Bent, Owen, crouch, naughton, Bassong etc all moved on without any real conviction from Villa. But there is still a week left and MON does move late in the window so fingers crossed for tomorrow and the rest of the week.

EvertonMike, maybe we should play each other, share the points and kick start each other's season.

Just a point about the latest poll, mystic mug has four sections including losing big. I don't remember that when we were doing well there was a 'win big' on the poll. And I'm told that this site is not negative?

i've not really commented much of late. Just sat back and watched as more an more people plump the depths of depression. I was lucky enough to miss the opening match against Wigan as I was on hols in Croatia (same last year and missed our 4-2 win over Man city). I have been massively optimistic since the Lerner/O'Neill era began but I have allowed myself to feel more and more negative of late. However it's a MASSIVE week for us. A positive result at Anfield (0-0?) and the splashing of some rather large cash would seriously improve the mood of us Villains and make us all realise that the Future is indeed (potentially) BRIGHT!! ;) UT F'kin Villa!!!

Gordonsleftboot, methinks seldom has the result been so obvious, can't think of many games last year when the most logical result was for us to win 5-0, I think many neutrals would predict a big Liverpool win, especially if they were aware of the usual form of this fixture, previous seasons even when we have been playing well we have gone to Anfield and lost 3-0, not expecting us to loose this big at all of our away games, just this one, hey if we win 1-0 nil i'll be ecstatic but also be expecting to wake up soon

Doom & gloom, what is up with everyone, we had a very good preseason, we lost to wigan at home on first day I know but man u lost their first game to burnley, forget the vienna game mid week that was always going to be a tough one and anyway we have the 2nd leg to play and I have every cofidence in our boys getting through to the group stages, liverpool monday night will be tough even tougher if the fans are on their backs after the 1st game of the season, MON will sign at least 3 players before the deadline, we need to get behind the team, dont drive a wedge between the fans and MON because at the moment he is one of the best managers around. UP THE VILLA................

I think the problem chasrack is that for the last 20 seasons we have basically been promised the same thing. We will bring in the players, we will sort out the squad issue, we will improve on the previous year. Every season though nothing has changed, we can't attract anyone of note, we rely heavily on youth players to fill out our squad and we virtually ALWAYS sell before we buy. This season we were promised players to kick us on, and we have seen a bunch of championship players arrive. The discrepancy between what is promised and what is delivered is clear for everyone to see. I am still gonna whole heartedly support Villa, but for many seasons I have been dissapointed in our transfers dealings, nothing besides some big transfers are going to sway me from that... Plus the fact that we have only signed one player who played in a league outside of Britain (i do stand corrected on that), boggles the mind...

Yes but Burnley have won again, showing they are not a bad side, Wigan have lost at home to Wolves and hammered at home by Man U, showing they are not good, chasrack

If I remember correctly, the last time we had a really good pre-season, we lost the first four games. So I am expecting us to beat Fulham...!
