Aston Villa Summer Transfer Thread Pt 7
Part seven and I'm sure the last for this year of the summer long torture/transfer thread.
Not been that positive a summer as yet, we live in hope that the next 10 days (transfer window closes 5pm on Tuesday 1 September because the Monday is a bank holiday).
So as with all the others, basically use this thread as you wish, who have you seen linked, who would you like in, which linked players would be good, bad or just plain ugly?

I tend to suggest a few players on each of these threads, Iwould love to see how they have got less and less ambitious from 1 to 7. From Hangelaand, Owen and Sneijder. So my list for number 7 is as follows - all realistic, achievable and what we need!! Distin, Warnock, Upson/Wheater, Tuncay and Zaki.

With Warnock out the Blackburn squad, at MON at the Wigan this Sat does this mean they ARENT actually speaking OR is it already a done deal and perhaps a medical is underway as we speak....
Anyway i think we should all judge MON after the window closes.....fingers crossed for a busy week but will refuse to make a judgement until the window slams shut!!

Its a strange one because it LOOKS like a done deal but no big issue made on official sites, sky, bbc etc. etc. surely it should have more coverage. I know its a 'bigger' deal but everyone knew the impact of Lescott being left out of Everton squad, looks similar here. I just hope we are not tarnished or accused of poaching after the positive PR we got after the Delph deal. Of course its not a major issue but I hate the way Spurs, Man Utd etc. go about transfer business.

If Real Madrid started giving players away, and these players wanted no wages and turned out to be Villa fans, it would still be touch and go that we would actually sign them up by 1.9.09, we would 'probably maybe look' to do something though, but it would turn out to be 'difficult'

we aint getting hangeland or wheater so forget it distin is still a possibility and warnock is more than likely. tbh i would be happy with senderos. think he would do a good job.has alot to prove and would be a good replacement for knight and adds another imo fairly good defender to the ranks. midfield is anyones guess and strikers...well i think we will have to wait until january for that. would ppl be happy with distin/senderos/upson, warnock and another midfielder have no idea who tuncay would be ideal.

Looking at O'neill expendatures since he took over, it adds up to 100mil and i cant see 100mil of quality in our squad. I think we really need players to Carews ability and Milners attitude. Its just that they are very hard to come by

This season wont be the same as last season, were probably the equivalent to fulham, meaning about a 7th place finish if were lucky, and remember everton and tottenham doesnt look like theyll be mediocre this season as the yhave been in previous seasons and we cant kid ourselves like man city arent gunna finish above us, because nowadays you damn near have to buy success in the form of good players, we have ***** all players and MON is talkin that same start of season siht saying "were working on afew things if we can get in players that will be good im after the quality not quantity" im sick of scouring the net for tabloid newspapers rumours and clinging on to them to see if theyre true...MON trying to silence the boo boys we have every damn right to boo right now, not much to cheer atm, hes got to stop being delusional because i feel this season will show us just how much improvemt our squad really needs. mediocre seasn means ashley young will get tired of it all and go to a bigger club as will other valued players like milner etc., if anythings gunna happen it needs to happen this season, but i cant help but feel if at anytime it was gunna happen, it was last season.

Obviously we shouldn't get too carried away, but i just wanna say a great performance tactically, hats off to o'neill and i think players like sidwell, reo and shorey can feel proud of themselves and really stake that claim for a first team place! I would be happy to see 2 from Hangeland/distin/upson/warnock. But if Curtis and Carlos (that actually 'sounds' like a succesful defensive partnership) can maintain the form they showed last night and they stay injury free (doubtful with davies shoulder!) then any CB's we get now might not even get a look in!! I think we're pretty strong and the midfield is sorted as long as we play 5 in the middle (please, MON, stick with the 4-5-1). But i still think we need a proven out and out goal scorer/poacher. just don't know who ?

4-5-1 suits the team/players we have. when we play 4-4-2 it just seems like its to accommodate Heskey and we struggle (i'm not being negative here, but Heskey hasn't been banging them in for fun since he joined us has he?) Gabby, to be fair, runs is ass off every time he plays but, again, he's struggled to find the net regularly, Carew's our best striker but he's injury/sickness prone. Man really put a damper on the season for me feeel really deflated dispite the gloomy transfer window I was really looking forward to this season and now its lost its edge. Very sad villa fan 2 night, there is nothing like a good european football evening be it gettin all excited at work to watch on the tellie in the evening or rocking up to VP and enjoying the special atmospher like the Ajax game. Please MON realise there’s life and decent players beyond the UK. You might even look as far as South America, I know you might be surprised but the South Americans are actually quite good at football, go on, have a look, you might be pleasantly surprised!!!! Honestly I would rather see Harewood over heskey... He atleast gives 110 %... And givin a decent run in the team he would score infinitly more goals... And he is a championship qualty player!

We need more than 1 new centre back Davies will have to have an op, so he'll need covering too. Is dunne supposed to be our Laursen replacement? I hope not!!

I'm not sure we need a new striker, we have Carew, Agbonlahor, Heskey and Harewood with young Delfounseo comeing on nicely. We are now out of europe so i can't see MON forking out for a new forward unless someone moves on. I would rather see MON strenghthen the team at the Back and in Midfield. We need people who are better on the ball to give us a different dimension. Its all well and good playing 4-5-1 or 4-4-2 with a big and a little man up front, but we lack creativity in supplying them. We rely too much on our wingers, the last few matches teams have doubled up on our wingers and we couldnt get the ball in the box. A flair player in the middle would be the cherry on the cake as far as I'm concerned. Lets get behind our team UTV!

I dont understand what the fuss is regarding Tuncay, I am glad we havent gone for him he is OK but wouldnt suit our style and certainly not a step forward!! same goes for Huth distinctly average. Dunne is a quality signing, he's a lion heart!

Astonsteve - I'll say again - I'd never shout Heskey down on a matchday, as long as he's in a Villa shirt I'll support him and the rest of the lads - on matchday. However, I'm free to express my views here. Heskey has been at our club for 8 months now during that 8 months our form has been very poor, Heskey has contributed to that, it's not his fault entirely but we can't afford passengers and he has been a passenger in just about every match he's played in, so why does MON continue to play him? The answer is MON belives Heskey is quailty and will come through his bad run and they have a long history together, my problem is MON has allowed Heskey too much time, too many chances and even changed the shape of the team to accomodate him. I hope Heskey starts playing his socks off and scoring goals - for Villa's sake. My opinion is he's had long enough and judging by what I've seen he is absolutely terrible, complete rubbish, every time he gets the ball I end up with my head in my hands and then looking to the sky - I don't boo him. He is awful, why do you defend him? OK you might like to keep him at the club and I'm sure he will remain a Villa player, but I think the very fact that MON has the 'Heskey' option is detrimental, I've seen nothing that convinces me he is an asset. I have to agree with 26.05.82 Heskey was brought in as a striker, therefore I expect him to score goals, but unfortunately he doesn't score often enough (and you can add gabby to that too) we desperately need another decent striker.

But Moyes has bought 2 CBs both for around £5M, which is how much we are planning to spend apparently, on a couple of CBs, but all summer others have explained to us on here that we understand nothing of the complexities of signing players and how long it takes and we must be patient, and then Moyes signs 2 players in a week!!

Deano.avfc, I have to question your thoughts on Heitinga. I follow Atletico Madrid in La Liga and have seen him play many times and he is not a good defender. He gets caught out of position so many times. He also usually plays RB for Atletico. Whether he will be better in the middle is of some debate.
