One Of Only Two Defenders Struggling With Injury
Villa boss Martin O'Neill confirmed on the official site last night following the disappointing loss in the Europa League that Villa defender Curtis Davies is still struggling with a shoulder injury.
Obviously the former West Brom man is one of only two senior centre backs now alongside the so far disappointing former Rangers man Carlos Cuellar following the retirement of Martin Laursen and the unfathomable sale of Zat Knight to Fulham (and even more so the sale of Gary Cahill to Bolton Wanderers!)
There was talk recently that Davies could at some stage need surgery on his troublesome injury and Villa at the moment are having to assess the situation before our Monday night visit to Anfield to take on Liverpool.
Would .. oh bugger .. be an appropriate comment right now?

Think MON talking about not breaking the bank if going to be his downfall. Leaves transfer to late to get bargains, but defence is now next to nothing and we may be looking now to add 3-4 defenders, paying sky high prices like last year especially when others know we desperately need them....
Upson 12 mil + Distin 6mil + Wheater 6mil + Warnock 8 mil = 32 mil on defenders.....how much did we spend last year? And these are match winning players either!!!

Cahill to Bolton turned out to be a terrible sell! At the time I thought £5m was a very good price! Hindsight obviously tells a different story! Zat Knight though was a great sell! We bought him for £2.5 and sold him for MORE, when some of his defending was so diabolical it would have been better had we been down to 10 men! Good business full stop!!!!!

What I wouldn't give to see this line up in defence against Liverpool on Monday - all from the team of 93/94:
Keeper: Bosnich
Left back: Staunton
Right back: Barrett
Centre Back: McGrath
Centre Back: Teale
Hell our current line up in defence makes us look weaker than the shadows of these greats.

Just keeps getting better and better. Don't hold your breath for signings. Unlike others I wasn't upset by the sale of Barry and can understand the sale of Cahill at the time for offield reasons, but the failure to buy quality and or to add quantity to the squad is inexcusable.

just saw another link reportin us to jenas! if spurs sold him if would be at least 10m and if o'neil pays that then Why the ***k cant he go and get van der vaart who apparently can leave madrid around 8-10 m and he is twice the player of jenas he wil add cretivity and goals. this is a jokee!

P. Villa its not like buying a loaf of bread, or it would be if the bread had a say in whose home he was taken back to. Its not quite as straightforward as saying here's £10m we'll take Van der Vaart.

I believe MON has had words with Real about Sneijder, maybe Van der Vaart as well, but if the players want Champions League, or don't fancy Birmingham as a home, then what can you do? I've been thinking, dont laugh.... what about Heskey at CB? He's tall, strong, can win headers and seems like he can tackle too... maybe we can find him something he can do :D

yeah definately, i feel a left back and a creative central midfielder would be needed aswell to mount a real challenge on the likes of man city, tottenham and everrton for 5th or 6th as i feel champions league is definately out the question.
