Unoial Villa News...
Just a quid from all users/readers and we'd raise thousands of pounds for Acorns. Worth a try? I'm guaranteeing £450 by season end at least but we could do so much more and as I say, all for just a quid for most? Full article: **Vital Villa Takes The Acorns 450 Challenge**
Mike Field: Well it seems so far so good for The Hulk and his infectious toe! Speaking on the official site Monny has confirmed that 'developments' in toegate are going well and he's even more convinced that John Carew will be ready for the Rapid Vienna game. 'We're fighting fit. John looks like he's made a recovery from his toe injury. He's certainly trained the last couple of days and there's been no reaction.' Great, so come Thursday we should have a striker available who can score.
MON on the Rapid Vienna game: Difficult Test Ahead Against Vienna
He also says on the official site he prefers to be away first: 'I prefer to be away first. There's that feeling that you can score a precious away goal and keep yourself firmly in the tie. That's certainly what we'll be aiming to do.'
Mike Field: Martin O'Neill has backed the team to erase the Wigan nightmare from our memories when we take on Rapid Vienna this Thursday. Speaking on the official site, Monny was adamant 'one game doesn't define a season' but stopped short of discussing the number of wins vs the number of games since January of this year, preferring instead to point to Everton's less than successful start to last season given where they finished (above us). Mike Field: Stiliyan Petrov can't wait to face Rapid Vienna, so the team can give the fans something to smile about again given out disastrous start against Wigan. Speaking on the official site today Petrov said that he hoped the performance against Wigan was simply a one off and that all of the lads are desperate for victory in the Europa League. Oh, I've had it confirmed by the club that the game won't be on tv this Thursday night... the home tie the week after will be (Channel 5) which is probably to the detriment of the club as a lot might choose to stay at home and watch it? Can't believe no channel is interested in showing the away leg, maybe even the re-branding from UEFA to Interflora, or is it Europa (?!) hasn't added to the value of the competition? I'd still like to see us win it though!

Stiliyan Petrov has told Sky Sports he is hoping for more new arrivals: 'This season you will be playing double headers. Every team you will play twice in the group stages, like in the Champions League, so it will be more games. That's why the manager is trying to make sure we have enough players to cope with this year in domestic cup games, Europe and the Premier League as well. Other teams in Europe have big squads and we must do that as well. I think before the window shuts we will have a few more signings. I hope so.'
Sky Sports (usually quite accurate) are reporting that Villa have bid £12million for West Ham defender Matthew Upson. Not many details as yet and still not gospel until on either official site: Villa In £12m Upson Bid?
This is an epic folks! John Lerwill who some might recall used to write on Vital Villa before his gainful employment at AVFC as club historian, has completed a massive publication covering the first half century of Villa's history is now available in both club stores. Full details: Villa Chronicles - A Triumph By John Lerwill
Mike Field: Martin O'Neill has said he was slightly surprised after seeing stats about player usage last season. Admitting on the official site that last week he went to a meeting for managers and was told that Villa only used 17 players all season, whilst other clubs had used over 23. This has made him determined to add to the squad and adopt more of a rotational policy...possibly more rotational than we heard when he talked about rotation at the start of last season you would presume. Mike Field: Nicky Shorey has admitted he is still unsure about his Villa Park future after reports linking Villa with Stephen Warnock. Speaking to the Express and Star Shorey said that although he still believed in his ability and he's enjoying his football he didn't know if he would still be at the club come September.
