Difficult Test Ahead Against Vienna

Martin O'Neill has insisted that we will be 'striving very hard' to reach the group stages of the Europa League, but points out Rapid Vienna are no slouches.

Describing Vienna as an 'extremely difficult' test, O'Neill told the official site how important the game was to him, the club and no doubt the fans who want us to take this years competition seriously.

'The game against Vienna is very, very important for us. I would love to play in the group stages - that would be important again for the development of the younger players in the squad - and the senior ones too.

'We will be striving very hard indeed to get through.'

Speaking about Vienna as a test, O'Neill reminds us that:

'Vienna beat Liverpool in pre-season - it will be an extremely difficult tie.

'We've had them watched every single time since we've known the draw.

'They're a really fine footballing side, excellent with the ball and with enough ability to cause us lots of problems going forward.

'Honestly, it will be tough for us, no doubt at all about it.'

The biggest question for most of us will be the team selection. Were the players that 'tired' after the opener against Wigan, who will start, who will be rested - will we have a worthwhile bench?

Well Monny gives us a hint:

'I will change the side a little bit but we will still be going very strongly with the players that we have available.'

So there we have it.

No, I really have no idea either.

I would like to see reo-coker start in centre mid..i know he's not everyones cup of tea especially regarding his passing, but having been out to spain for the peace cup, he was looking very hungry & motivated....he is more of a leader then anything else we have at the min, and he would add that little bit of bite that we were certainly lacking on saturday...we need people to show a bit of character, and thats something that he has got....

I wouldn't mind seeing him, sidwell and albrighton given a start to shore up the midfield and defence a bit by playing reo between defence and midfield and get a bit of run out wide with young and albrighton. And put Carew up front.

I wish Mon would speak in sentences that make sense. Not sure if he talks to the team, he never spoke to the subs that came on against Wigan, but if he does, he's got to make sure the sentences make sense.
"I will change the side a little bit but we will still be going very strongly with the players that we have available."
So whats that mean then????????

liamo1981 i like the sound of that as it gives us a strong backbone. Will Stan be fit? Is davies struggling with his fitness also? Do we go with Guzan? Not sure if MON knows his best team and if he does will he change our formation from 442 to 451 as he should? Too many questions and doubts for me. This will be a very tough tie to get through and as usual we will make it hard by sloppy defensive work and poor finishing up front. Oh how I wish I was wrong!
