Carew In Line For Rapid Return

Martin O'Neill believes that John Carew will be fit for our upcoming clash against Rapid Vienna.

After all the fall out from the Wigan game it appears John Carew will be ready to face Vienna in Austria, not a minute too soon if true!

Speaking to the Express and Star, O'Neill revealed that Carew had rejoined training albeit not fully, yesterday and that the infection wasn't too bad.

'His infection is not too much, with a little bit of luck he'll be available.'

O'Neill also added....conspiracy theoriests at the ready....

'It's something he made the doctor aware of on Friday or Saturday, but he played the Normal-Scotland game without complications.'

Regardless of what happened, who's fault, who burnt the toast, who nicked the last crumpet if we are to have any chance of progressing in the Europa League we need Big John physically and mentally ready.

Our chances for success are sadly limited if we lead with 442, let alone Gabby and Heskey in the starting positions.

One day the penny will drop and we'll get a pure penalty box poacher...well I live in hope.

Even if he is fit I doubt he will start. Heskey can't shoot and Gabby had 60 minutes of preseason and both were chosen ahead of our no.1 striker. I hope he starts every game he is available for I think whether he is fit or not he will be on the bench :( For Carew to start another game in the Premiership it will not be before Heskey and Gabby don't score after 4 games or we boo one of the two off the pitch. It should now be Carew up top with 5 in midfield! Personally I would love Carew to have been made Captain.

fantastic recovery from this awful injury. Just off to turn some water into wine. SO hope that JC is fit and STARTS... he is the most likely of our strikers to score for sure.

Maybe Heskey will bag a hat-trick of 30-yarders? I'll get me coat...
