'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Stan Delphinitely Ready To Kick On

Stiliyan Petrov can't wait to face Rapid Vienna, so the team can give the fans something to smile about again given out disasterous start against Wigan.

Speaking on the official site today Petrov said that he hoped the performance against Wigan was simply a one off and that all of the lads are desperate for victory in the Europa League.

'I think after this disappointment we want it to come very quick so that we can show everybody that it is a one off.'

Whilst Petrov has praise and respect for the Vienna team, he's less interested in how they will play and how dangerous they will be and more far more concerned with our own performance.

'It is about how we are going to play. Everybody wants to be in Europe and we hope that after the next few games we will be in the group stages.'

On another note, Petrov has also backed Fabian Delph to shine in the Premier League this year despite his league debut against Wigan.

'I'm convinced Fabian is going to become one of the best players in the country. He's an exceptional player and a great talent who has been clearly determined to make an impact straight away.'

That last bit, about Delph, was actually in the programme on Saturday, as opposed to being a quote from after the match.

Rapid Vienna are very experienced european campaigners, definitely very tricky opponents to have to face at such an early stage of the competition. Hopefully the Wigan debacle was indeed a one-off, and that the lads can turn in a convincing performance and obtain the sort of result that will set us up very nicely for the second leg at Brummagem B6. I think that I'm correct in saying that Rapid beat Tottenham in a pre-season warm-up game, so they certainly wont be pushovers. I'd like to think that we can enjoy a decent run in the competition, it would certainly be something of a shame to completely throw away all of last seasons good work by experiencing an early exit.

You will have to watch Vienna, they are very fast on the break, take dead balls very quickly, move the ball with speed and will be flying down the wings, their forwards are nimble and their goalkeeper often comes screaming off his line to help the defence.

The game against Wigan was a massive blip, but just a blip. You Villains will just play your "Get out of Jail card" and it will be curtains for Vienna.
