Monny Staying Positive

Martin O'Neill realises that we will have to be tighter in defence this season if we even hope to recreate last season's 6th place finish.

Speaking on the official site ahead of Saturday's opener against Wigan, Monny promised that despite trying to be tighter in defence, we wouldn't be sacrificing our attacking play.

He also admits, that given the losses of players over the summer, our 'strategy' may have to change somewhat.

'In simplistic terms we want to try and concede less goals and if we do that during the course of season we stand a better chance of winning.

'But we play a pretty strong attacking brand of football. We don't want to change that. In fact if anything we want to try and be a bit more inventive from the middle of the field and that is what we are trying to look at.'

So hopefully folks this is the emergence of a Plan B we were all crying out for last season when 'kick it long to Ash or Carew' didn't work.

We do seem well set up now for more than just a counter attack, our wing play should be promising and with more balance in the side, and dare I say it, the lack of Barry as the safe pass option should lead to more drive through the middle.

Hopefully we'll see the attacking play we first had under O'Neill and not the press PR induced attacking play of last season.
