Villa Sign Keeper Cover

Aston Villa have announced the signing of 34-year-old goalkeeper Andy Marshall on a one-year-deal.

And people dare say we've got no ambition in the transfer market, how dare they.

JOKING JOKING, don't get all angry at me... I'm fragile today!

He's been at Norwich, Ipswich Town, Millwall and Coventry so is well travelled.

I guess this is one of the five quality signings Monny was looking to bring in. Surely were favourites to win the league now!

A solid keeper - we at QPR were interested in him, but it seems he thinks he can challenge Friedel - he would have been number one at LR if he'd stuck it out - Radek Cerny isn't very good!

Should we reading more into this, issue with the long term fitness of Friedel?

capitalvilla- no we sold our #3 in taylor so this is just cover, remember the other season when we had no keepers due to injury and suspension and we had to get that crappy pj wearing gimp from crystal palace, we dont want that again

He's just been signed as a 3rd choice. You need a 3rd keeper and now Taylor's gone, MON obviously feels Parish isn't ready yet. That's 2 of the 5 signings he promised, once we get John Fashnu back, he'll only need to get another 2!

he is just cover in the event of both brads being injured we will probably never see him play apart from reserve games i just hope that he is not 1 of the 3 more signings that MON spoke about

Funny we went 1 1/2 seasons with out a single dedicated RB, but now we see the need to get a 3rd choice keeper! Why am I even bothering to comment on this article! Well at least now I can click the latest poll about where we will finish in all faith, of course we will win the league now we have a 3rd choice keeper!

Surely this isn't a signing that goes towards MON's 4 or 5 more needed. Utter crap!

I actually like Marshall, always have. He is provides us with plenty of experience IF he manages to play a game. Not a bad signing at all, better than that german keeper we were linked to that had no experience of English football

"just what we need a 34 yr old". Erm, did you never notice that good keepers are frequently older than outfield players, olof? And just how old do you think Brad Friedel is? If your issue is age, you're way off the mark mate. If it's something else, perhaps you'd have another think about it and post again ...

I know he'll never play and it doesnt hurt to have cover but this seems like one of the most pointless signings we've ever made (after Salifou of course)

Pking, dont think it is pointless at all, surely he would be a better option than a 19 year old back up keeper? Young keepers are prone to mistakes, if Parish is one for the future then he would benefit from playing somewhere on loan, better he makes his mistakes elsewhere. Marshall like Taylor before him, provides us with an extremely experienced back up keeper should both Brad's be unavailable (which incidentally, is unlikely).

Decent enough, sensible, logical signing. We definitely need three goalkeepers, and following the off-loading of Stuart Taylor to Manchester City, a signing, such as that of Andy Marshall, was always going to be the obvious route to take. Plenty of experience, he will fill the third keeper role perfectly, without being anything of a liability should he be called upon at an important time during the season.
