'If It's Football, It's Vital'

BUMPER Villa Transfer Talk Today!!

I'm not convinced by this, according to The Mirror and also reported on Vital Blackburn that Villa have had a 4million bid for Blackburn's versatile left-back and sometimes midfielder Stephen Warnock turned down. I was told by a press man a few weeks ago that these links were being rubbished by the club and press had been steered away from it, however things do change in football fairly quickly when other targets become unavailable.

Nice one this is! The Daily Mail say that our hopes of signing Real Madrid midfielder and Holland international Wesley Sneijder have taken a step for the good as Inter Milan have admitted they can't afford Real's asking price of 20million. The report says whilst Villa would want to pay around 5million less Inter will abandon any move and go for another midfielder altogether.

Sneijder's agent Soren Lerby said: 'For some time there has been talk of a move to Inter for Sneijder, but the reality is that there is nothing happening.' Adding about the player ''Wesley is an attacking midfielder, very technical, with good vision for the game. Sneijder would definitely go to a club that can guarantee an almost constant use. A few days ago I heard from someone of Inter, but the problem is the money required by Real. The possibility that he remains in Madrid is still quite high.' Ah right, so not quite so much of a boost as first expected, but then, maybe we can convince him that sunny Aston is the place to be?! Chelsea have also apparently been watching the 25-year-old.

The Mirror says Sam Allardyce has laughed the bid out of Blackburn... well, not exactly those words, but you get the drift. It is claimed that Rovers would only consider a deal if the money was considerably more for the player who was Blackburn's Player of the Year last season.

The Guardian meanwhile have Villa down for a double swoop on Spurs for David Bentley and Jermaine Jenas. I know the Jenas link has been 'dismissed' by Appy Arry and the player himself said he was happy at Spurs but, well... whispers do suggest otherwise. Now I don't go much for this ITK stuff and whispers and gossip within the game are often as wide of the mark as the gossip from press and outsiders... however .... ?

Time will tell on that one. I'd think the delay in the Spurs links would be more down to the fact Appy Arry wanted Ashley Young as part of the deal, something Villa won't consider and also IF Spurs were to sell Jenas, they'd want a replacement in first, they are being linked with Wigan's Lee Cattermole (also being chased by former Manager and now Sunderland boss Steve Bruce) so maybe that is the key!? I was told the other day for a friendly, out of a squad of 22, JJ wasn't there and has no injury issues at the moment.

Anyway... The Guardian say the interest in Bentley is back on and is exploring the chances of grabbing him and Jenas. They say that no official offer has been made yet but they are trying to find out what sort of price Spurs expect for the duo.

The indications are that Tottenham could be willing to do business for the pair, although, as yet, not at a price that Villa would be prepared to pay. says the reporter Stuart James.

The Daily Star say that Fulham are after Villa midfielder (and captain for a game or two in the Peace Cup) Nigel Hokey-Cokey. The paper claims 25-year-old NRC wants a move back to London. Nah, can't see that myself, well... hmmm... ok, maybe if we got Jenas?!

Oh and just a quick one, well done to Everton for turning down Joleon Lescott's transfer request. Good to see another club willing to stand by their principles and not allowing the players to show absolutely no loyalty at all when the big promise of wages from Manchester City or anywhere else is waved in front of their faces.

Nothing to do with Villa but everything to do with football, our thoughts I'm sure are with John Hartson who told The Sun 'I have so much to live for' after 'winning the first stage of his fight against cancer'.

Splash the cash for Wesley MON. 20 million on a cheque, wham bam thank you Real. Done. Think of the boost it would give the fans, think of the message it would send out to other teams, think of the players Sneijder would attract...most importantly, think of the football we'll start to play. Do it man. Do it now. Please.

not sure what I want more... JJ and DB or sneijder. I don't think MON will get all three - we still need to buy a defense... But I really rate bentley and Jenas would give us a midfielder with pace, vision and creativity. But world class players come along so seldomly and sneijder is WORLD CLASS... Ah it hurts my head trying to decide!!!!

Have ro say that I dont think that this year is going to as much about Champs League as normal. Granted it'll still be a massive factor, but if you are a player that is looking to be on a plane to the World Cup, would you risk staying at Real and bench warm purely because no other CL club comes in, or, go to a club that has a high level of exposure for potential internationals and play week in week out? Because of that I dont think that the Snijder deals is as far fetched as some might think.

20m - peanuts. we should make a statement, we have a Billionaire Chairman for god sake. If we want to compete this year we need to do it. 16m for Valencia = 20m for Sneidjer!

Don't worry Astriel, the decision is out of our hands. It's in MON's hands...hence we'll end up with Jonathan Greening.

What's with the sudden change to italics? Trying to make things look more dramatic? On the Lescott point I don't think loyalty plays any part in football these days, apart from the fans, obviously. Why did Lescott sign a long term contract with Everton? If he thought that he might be away at any time whay not sign a succession of one years deals? Answer - because he wanted the penny and the bun. The security of a long term deal in case of injury AND the freedom (so he thought) to move on if a bigger pay day beckoned. I hope Everton remain true to their principles and keep him regardless.

Sneijder is staying at Madrid apparently. Has been "promised" games. Van der Vaart is looking for a club though. MON could bring in Messi and it wouldn't mean anything without a quality replacement for M.Laursen, who still hasn't been replaced.

Why dont we try to sign Sneijder on a loan? He isn't commited to a team without CL, we get to see first if he is worth 20M? Not my idea, Saurat's, but a bloody good one and worth a try. But if that fails, why not splash the 20M? We got 12M for Barry, and 4M for Knight, we only need another 6M? These chances don't come around very often, and if we wait, maybe ManU or Chelsea will snap him up!

Why would Tich Sneijder go to Villa? He's looking for a Big Club.

The trouble with the so-called Champions League is that it seems to make the football public think that clubs who haven't got a prayer of winning it (Arsenal), haven't won their domestic league in years (Liverpool), or can only buy success (Chelsea) are "Big".

Sinbad you're forgetting about the world cup next year me old son. If Sneijder came to Villa (who are a big club by the way) his chances of playing for Holland will be guaranteed. If he goes a whole season with bugger all first team football with Madrid, he's not going to play.

I would love Sneijder but with Milner, Young, Downing and Delph I would rather spend the 20M on a top quality centre back. We have never had trouble scoring goals, it's conceding them that loses us games
