Dodgy Gerrard Groin Gives Ash A Chance

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has withdrawn from the England squad ahead of our pointless friendly against Holland after suffering a 'slight' groin strain in training.

On the back of this Fabio Capello has decided to place his faith in Ash for the wide left berth.

Speaking to the press, the England boss said:

'It will be a good test for him, he has only played twice for me but the last time he did very well.'

May even watch this friendly then!

Is this something we need to learn - "slight" injuries just around the time of meaningless internationals? Liverpool and ManU are so obvious about it, but nothing ever gets done.

Should also say good luck to Ashley. Let's hope he can make an impression this time. Just do what you're told and you should be fine. And no injuries - please!!!!!

This can only be good news for us, any player hoping to break the england squad sees that a villa player is making it can only mean that they think they can make that step as well. About "slight" injuries, again, it shouldnt matter, Ash is getting his chance, if he makes himself undroppable in the way Barry did when he got his recall, his laughing. One thing that is sure under capello, no one is a dead cert to be in the team, you're only as good as your form shows, and if there are better, capello has no hesitation in making changes.

I like how he picks his players, not just the same few each time...

Pathetic how they pull out with nothing more than a wobbly groin! Get Alex Curran to massage it you wimp!

Thus far Young has always looked out of his depth at international level however Milners cameo was very impressive. Obviously you can't read too much into a one off sub appearances but he's probably earnt a call up to next squad, maybe even at the expense of Ashley...

Milner complete outshone Young when he came on. Nice to have a good Villa presence in the England squad though.
