No Olympics For Villa Park

Reports are saying that Villa have had to withdraw Villa Park from the Olympics contention because of planned re-development work meaning the club couldn't guarantee availability of our ground for the planned group stages.

An organisers’ statement said:

'LOCOG is grateful to Aston Villa for its support to date and is continuing with its planning in order to deliver a first class Olympic football tournament. It is looking at options for replacing Villa Park.'

Better to be ready for when England finally get the World Cup back I'd have thought?!

Mike Field:

Major redevelopments are planned over the next few years it seems, be interesting to see what those plans are as they can't be minor alterations.

The statement from the Organisers added:

'LOCOG is grateful to Aston Villa for its support to date.'

Not sure how many will be fussed by this, would've been good to see the Ollies at B6 boosting the club's brand further but by the same token we all know the improvements the ground could do with having, so I think I'd settle for those instead.

Not being a fan of the Olympics, the fact that Villa Park wont be featured and used in the 2012 games, means very little to yours truly. If instead we are going ahead with plans to push ahead with the major re-developments that will be taking place over the next few years, then that piece of news receives the two thumbs up from me.
