His report today says Spurs are ready to make a 'new' bid for England and Villa winger Ashley Young. A new bid? There hasn't been a bid as far as I can make out and if there was, you would certainly expect them not to make a joke of themselves by bidding just £21million for the 24-year-old former Watford man.
Both Martin O'Neill and Randy Lerner have said the player isn't for sale so short of the winger putting in a transfer request - and his recent comments saying he is happy at Villa and has much to achieve here suggests he isn't of a mind to do that - there is no chance he is leaving.
There is NO CHANCE full stop of him leaving for £21million - that is for sure.
The paper claims that Appy Arry see's a chance of getting him because Villa are hot in pursuit of Real Madrid star Wesley Sneijder. They miss one fact, Villa has a tiny squad and is looking to build.
Ash said not so long back in the Express and Star: 'I've got two and a half years left, and I'm delighted to be playing at the club. I can see myself seeing out the rest of my contract here. Of course I can.' Adding in the Mail 'It's a big year coming up. I'm a fairly grounded person. I've been brought up that way. As a player you always want to play in the biggest competitions. I am no different.'

Its probably complete nonsense but its still amusing that Villa fans seem to get so sensitive/uptight about it. Every player has his price however big the club he plays for (Ronaldo!!) and Young has his price, although I fully agree that its likely to be higher than £21 million. I understand that he is unlikely to go to Hull or Stoke even if they could pay the required fee but at the moment Spurs and Villa are at a roughly similar(ish) level and Spurs are closer to his family home so its not crazy, although still unlikely. Chill out about it or everyone will think you have a complex. By comparison, our best player is Modric and we are aware that if someone comes along with enoough money and its attractive to the player he may go, especially if we dont have a good season this year. Thats life with good players - there will always be speculation.

johnyuk you seem to miss the point...young to spurs was a non story from the begining, so why keep running articles "in response" to it!! you say you are not worried bout young in the slightest, but keep screaming from the rooftops bout it....like another poster said, it shows villa to be a one man team, are they? i dont think so, but the way young gets your piles itching, you would think so!....your in a weaker position than last year, but cant seem to come to grips with that fact...beye for laursen! crippled downing, and a player from the third tier in, barry out...hmmm...but its ok, you won the peace cup!!!

OK so we won't sell and he wants to stay. Why can't he show his true dedication by signing an extended contract, rather than just saying he will see out his cntract which means either Villa get nothing for him, or, when there is only 2 years left, we will be under pressure to sell like we were with Barry. The answer I know , is those times have gone. Lets hope he and Villa have a cracking season, and we can only hen see where that takes us from there.

aron, bent may have gone, but look at the 4 strikers we have, we have a very good strike force, unlike villa....as for a left winger....we have luka modric, enough said....the only department that is a worry is defence with the current injuries, but once dawson and woodgate are back we will be strong therre to with the addition of bassong...overall i think our squad is stronger than villa's...would you disagree..

Everton have hardly made waves and have the added bonus of all those europe games. Arsenal and pool appear to be weaker than last season but we shall see. Got berbatov written all over him and levy knows it. defoe for you is hardly clinical, 1 in 3 maybe, same as our gabby. carew will score more than crouch. dawson dont cut it as a first teamer too slow and lacks concentration. woodgate slow and injury prone. King one of the best defenders in the prem, but his career is ending. I dont see how you are stronger than us at all

It does make me laugh. These Spurs really are consistent aren't they. The article refers to the piece in the NOTW, showing how bad the journalism is these days. It doesn't pass any judgement at all about Spurs, just says that of course £21m wouldn't be enough to get him. Add to this that they had an article centred around Delph the other day, someone they weren't even linked with (it was Everton and Man City that had offers turned down) and yet they still feel they can criticise!!! Maybe they just can't let any player go without assuming they would be linked in some way. Delusional just doesn't describe them.

We've dominated Spurs in over 70% of the premiership seasons - Spurs is a step down and they are reportedly offering £29m too little. I'd be more concerned if a big club came in for him..

I saw the story about 'Young to Spuds' and the first thing that crossed my mind was, should I have cornflakes or porridge for breakfast? However having read the comments on this thread, these are my other thoughts. Villa fans, stop getting so uptight about every tabloid non story and making yourselves look foolish with the insecure mutterings that have been posted above. Spuds fans, get a life. The fact that you spend so long on a Villa site is of great amusement to us all. It simply shows who you fear and who you aspire to be as good as. I have no interest whatsover in the Spuds pages. another thing is,99% of spurs fans agree with the fact that young will not leave for that money but some you villians are just intent on finding a rivalry that isn't there, both spurs and villa have underacheived in the past 15-20 years, so to say one is better than the other smacks of desperation on both parts, ...................

Well Delph is only young and desined for greatness. The other 2 didn't quite play in the lower leagues. Even though they got relegated, they were their team's best players!! MON is being very shrewd and picking up bargains this year although we'll struggle without a few more. Quality rather than quantity though, there's no point buying a player if he's not going to play for you (Kyle Walker) unless you're a selling club that is ;-D
