Villa Sign Newcastle's Habib Beye?

Sky Sports News are claiming that Aston Villa nabbed Newcastle defender Habib Beye from under the nose of Hull City who had a fee agreed for the player earlier today.

The 31-year-old has apparently been at Bodymoor Heath talking terms and has now signed a 3 year deal.

As always, won't fully believe it until the official site releases a statement, but it looks like we have our third signing of the season.

Vital member adamson said: "I'm happy with that Beye! Versatile defender, much needed, Premier league experience. Alright, he was part of a relegated side but from what i've seen and heard, he was one of the better performers last season for the Magpies."

Happy with that beye, very good...very corney, but very good!!!

He's a right back, and along with Bassong was Newcastle's only half-decent defender last season. He'll have been signed as cover for Luke Young. A good squad player and cheap at 2.5 million (assuming it's the same money agreed by Hull).

3-4 more players to come in and we have only net spent (including peace cup m,oney recieved) approximately 2M? hopefully we have a decent budget of say 40m to blast on 2 defenders and a quality proven midfielder and if/when harewood leaves bring tuncay aswell
clarkamus
good squad player, serious strength still needed. by my reckoning we've still got LOTS of money left to spend. It will be criminal if MON fails to spend what is available when our defence was so poor without Laursen last season. I refuse to use the "we have a very small squad" defence again this season

Know absolutely nothing about the guy, so have no views or opinions to offer on this one. Suffice to say that he's another body, so that alone has to be a plus, but as to the quality or type of defender that we're getting, I'll have to go by what you chaps are saying. I presumably saw him play twice last season, against us at St James Park, and the return fixture here at Brummagem B6, but he never stood out, caught my eye, or did enough/not enough to enable me to form an opinion.

Well, you say that Astonian, but he was Newcastle's player of the season 2008 so he must be pretty decent.

That 'webflash' thing is lame. On a brighter note, another Villa site just suggested a great song for Habib Beye, to the tune of Happy Days: 'Monday Tuesday Habib Beye, Wednesday Thursday Habib Beye etc' Also, we've got the Fonz too so lets try and work him into the song!

Good luck with him, I hope he works out for you. A disruptive influence motivated by cash, will be on 40k per week, a lot for a defender from a relegated team IMO.

Am I the only one looking at this and thinking that a 31 year old defender with premiership experience is not going to come to VP to fight for a place with Young and Lichaj, he's coming to play with Lichaj as his cover. Perhaps the rumours about Luke were not just rumours.
Not only that but he's another over 30 raising the already high average age of a so called young team.
I know I'm going to get flamed for being negative here and if I'm wrong about L Young and this guy is just cover/competition then I'll be more than happy, I just wonder.

Easy Basle Tiger. Motivated by cash? Or possibly motivated by a push for the top rather than a relegation battle!?!
