Petrov Back In Training + Other Injury Updates

Petrov Back In Training + Other Injury Updates

Martin O'Neill has given an update on the injury status of some of our players.

Apparently Curtis Davies is fit to face Fiorentina in this weekends friendly despite having suffered with shoulder problems. MON says it is an injury the club will have to 'monitor'.

Luke Young however is out because of his thigh strain injury. MON says it has been a 'blow' that he has missed pre-season but says the player is feeling much better.
'I said that about a fortnight ago when he was going very well indeed and then he felt sore again after working exceptionally hard on one of the days out in Spain. I have fingers crossed. But Fiorentina will come too soon.'

Stiliyan Petrov has returned to training and MON will make a decision about whether to play him later. 'I am not sure about the weekend game yet. But at least he is in better shape than in a week ago - in terms of starting against Wigan.'

Meanwhile Wilfred Bouma is on course to return to full training at the end of August.

MON says on Wilf: 'Wilfred is fine. It's a wee bit slow again. We are hoping he may be able to join in with us fully towards the end of the month. That would be encouraging. But it's been a laborious progress. He has had a few set-backs along the way so I wouldn't want to be putting any time frame on it. He is definitely getting stronger though.'
