Fabian Delph stuff:

Fabian Delph has spoken for the first time on the official site since his 'undisclosed' fee transfer from Leeds. Speaking tonight Delph revealed that moving to Villa was an opportunity he couldn't resist given Martin O'Neill's desire and belief in young English talent, and his success in getting that talent recognised by Fabio Capello. Mike Field: Speaking on the official site today, Captain Cokey also stated that already having a Trophy in the cabinet before the season kicks off has made the players determined to enter the 'real' season with the right frame of mind ie a winning mentality. 'If I'm honest I'm a little bit lost for words. It has been a very tough tournament and the lads have worked really hard. We performed really well, played some great stuff and showed a lot of character. 'It feels good. That's what it's all about. It's a winning mentality and that is something that has got to stick for the rest of our time here at Aston Villa.' Full article: Hokey Aims To Keep The Winning Cokey

Sheriff Kimbo: Hello all. So how was your July? I`ve got to admit, I thought there would be more than one signing by now, but alas, one it is. Now, some of you will say that MON is slow in the transfer market. But clearly he is a genius - by signing Stewart Downing, he already has his first January signing. Who else can say that?! ;-) Full article: Sheriff Kimbo's Monthly Musings (2)

HeathfieldRoad1874: The first thing to note here is that this is pure speculation from me, but in my mind it makes sense. Having watched the last 3 transfer windows with immense interest, a few things stand out. The first is the impatience of fans to sign the new 'star player' (or in our case - anybody!!). I don't know how many of you visit other Clubs boards, but it's pretty much the same everywhere. We are not alone!! Conclusion? It's normal for transfers to drag on in many cases, and it's natural as a supporter to get agitated. The Transfer Circus

Mike Field: Martin O'Neill has paid tribute to the performance of Brad Guzan during our Peace Cup final victory over Juventus. Speaking on the official site this morning O'Neill called him 'absolutely immense' after keeping a clean sheet in normal and extra time, and then bagging himself two penalty saves in the shootout. The praise wasn't just for yesterday's performance though, it was for his performance throughout the competition. 'Overall it was a great tournament for him. He played in the last three games and he was immense.' As for his penalty antics, Monny couldn't resist saying: 'I think even I could have saved Alessandro Del Pierro's penalty.' If you can stand more transfer talk, this was from Monday: Monday's Aston Villa Press Transfer Talk

Vital Villa asked: With links to both Spurs strikers, who'd you like? 37% voted Robbie Keane and 36% Darren Bent (who is on the verge of a move to Sunderland according to the Sun today) That left 17% voting neither and 10% wanted both. Martin O'Neill said after the Peace Cup victory, picked up deservedly against Juventus who fielded a strong team against our very promising youngsters mixed in with first team regulars that everyone will go home happy. The Villa boss told AVTV that he couldn't be more pleased adding: 'It is great for the team and I am particularly pleased for the young players in the side, who performed brilliantly throughout the tournament. It was nice to have competed well and obviously nice to have won it. I think we will all go home very happy.' Full quotes: Peace Out - The Kids Are Albright

There seems to have been a fair amount of confusion as to the situation with Villa midfielder Moustapha Salifou and his contract. I have had confirmation from the Villa press office that he travelled with the club to Spain for the Peace Cup and that he is contracted until 2011.

I did an interview for the fourfourtwo's pre-season supplement which is free with this month's 442 Magazine (on sale now...) It is difficult to answer as obviously the transfer window is closed, I had expected more in by now and for my predictions to look stupid but sadly, that hasn't been the case so I'd stick by my 7th (and have said online ... maybe even around 8th) UNTIL we see who we bring in! The full interview - inside the supplement I'll be cut... which is the best thing that could happen to me according to some... well, ok, according to most! Vital Villa's Take On Season In 442

Thought for the day: I was in the jungle and there was this monkey with a tin opener. I said, 'You don't need a tin opener to peel a banana.' He said, 'No, this is for the custard.'
