'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Hokey Aims To Keep The Winning Cokey

No I don't get that headline either, but anyway, Nigel Hokey Cokey has admitted he is almost lost for words after our Peace Cup victory.

Speaking on the official site today, Captain Cokey also stated that already having a Trophy in the cabinet before the season kicks off has made the players determined to enter the 'real' season with the right frame of mind ie a winning mentality.

'If I'm honest I'm a little bit lost for words. It has been a very tough tournament and the lads have worked really hard. We performed really well, played some great stuff and showed a lot of character.

'It feels good. That's what it's all about. It's a winning mentality and that is something that has got to stick for the rest of our time here at Aston Villa.'

Taking time out to praise the youngsters specifically for our victory, he added:

'We've had to adapt to a lot of training and we've lost a lot of players too for different reasons. But I think credit has to go to the young boys that came in.

'To come in to such a high level competition, perform as well as they did and to beat the likes of Juventus - a world famous club - it's a tremendous achievement.'

It's certainly put most of us back on a high and enthusiasm for the campaign ahead is now high, hopefully we'll see the right people come in and we can all be smiling come the end of the season.

Reo says; "... and that is something that has got to stick for the rest of our time here at Aston Villa." Does that suggest to anyone else that he feels his days at VP may be drawing to a close? I for one hope not (yet).

Must admit that I have not been one of Nigels most fervent supporters since his arrival here at beautiful Brummagem B6. He's another player, who for one reason or another, and admittedly all reasons are not of his making or choosing, has not really established himself as an important member of the team that MON is slowly but surely putting together. That he has abilities and capabilities that we haven't yet seen the best of, I dont dispute, and he certainly has it in him to be one of the key performers in the campaign ahead. In many ways he would be the ideal choice to skipper the team, but of course, to achieve that honour he has to firmly establish himself as a guaranteed starter. Like many others, he certainly enjoyed a successful tournament over in sunny Spain, so who knows, maybe this will be his season? Good Luck to him.
