AV A Schniedy Word With Wes..

AV a Schniedy word with Wes..

Many have already written the Wesley Sneijder link off, including myself, mainly because of Liverpool's involvement - but like the General said only this week ' aim high, shoot high'.

I for one believe that if Real Madrid, Juventus, Porto and the likes are all in Spain, all playing in the Peace Cup, all in the same area then there is no better time to splash waves up the Mersey than now.

We can't compete with Liverpool's Champions League offerings but a few wee persuasive words from mon himself describing how he is wanted to become the fulcrum of the team, a team which is aiming for a return of the 82 glory days, a team full of pace, courage and endevour, and a team that narrowly missed out to arsenal and took the league by storm for the better part of last season might actually work.

Well your right, it won't work. But at least it would show genuine intent, at least I have been allowed venture outside and imagine a transfer window without the suffocation of links surrounding the likes of Jenas and Bent, Delph or Distin without anybody actually being signed.

Now I actually like all of the above players, they have quality and are very capable players. But surely these signings are obvious targets, very achievable if we wanted them, players we have discussed about for weeks, well yes they are.

The truth is were all a bit worried about the start of the new new season and the numbers game. But if these signings are so obvious, good, fairy easy, achievable signings in our eyes then isn't this also true in the eyes of MON, well once again probably yes.

The point is then, why have these signings not been made already?

Well is it not in fact possible that in fact that this rumour is a signal of Martin O'Neill's intent in the transfer window and that the obvious targets of Jenas and the likes are in fact not what mon is looking for, that MON and co in fact have aimed higher in order to shoot higher?

The trouble is the manager is so tight lipped that nobody knows, maybe not even himself.

Can the villa really attract this type of player?

I'm not so sure, you tell me!

My writing off of the rumour was more to where the link came from... I think it is Young Jonah in the forum who ... or EuroChamps maybe... who are quoting me saying 'we won't know if we don't try' when it comes to players... be great if we grabbed a few from Madrid... but if CL is on offer, that is where the buggers will go!

This must be the worst spelling of "Sneijder" I've ever seen. :P

It's strange really. At one time a player would look to find a deal at a club that he liked and felt he could work with, looking at others possibly coming in, to fulfil a mutual ambition. Now players want it all handed to them on a plate, moving to teams that are already at the top just swapping themselves out for the out of favour, injured or aging. They seem to have no ambition to actually achieve anything anymore, just to win things (not the same at all, although related). They really are a bunch of overpaid premadonas!

yeah i agree fear as to where the link came from, and unfortunately like you say if in the words of steve maclaren "champons leag" is on offer then i doubt we have much chance. the thing with mon is, as a player u have to subscribe to his mentalatily his football politics, his belief, if they do then i believe they will sign regardless of champsleague, the trouble is theres not many left in this spolit footballing world, of flash cars etc, i just hope and also think ashley young is someone who does. trouble is if mon goes then maybe ash does too.

The Mail's article on Sneijder also lists our other transfer targets. If it is true that Distin and Campbell are wanted (and certainly the former seems to be well on the agenda), then I despair. Neither of these are as good as what we have already, so the best we'd be hoping for is that these players are being brought in to bulk up the squad. But if you're a boxer looking to move up a weight division, you don't bulk up with fat, but with muscle, so why are we looking at Distin and Campbell?? Warnock isn't a bad player, but should we really be excited about signing someone who is coming in to replace a relatively new signing (assuming that Bouma is going to recover, though that might be quite a big assumption to make)? Veloso seems to be available, and is the kind of midfielder we need, i.e. strong and defensively capable. But is he of sufficient quality? That remains to be seen. Sneijder certainly has a good pedigree, but, as has been noted, the chanches of us signing him appear remote.

My impression is that we'll eventually spend a decent amount of money and finish the season in the top half of the table. Anywhere from 6th to 10th is possible, but 10th is more likely than 6th.

Small point, it isn't all about Champions League....... Take a glance at who City have signed. Unfortunately if it isn't all about Champions League then it def is about money!!!! Whilst we have pounds we don't have Man City pounds. Pointless post by me really..........Still, we can offer more than just money or champs league. There is a great, young, fast, creative look to our team. for most of last season we played dynamic and flowing football, exciting and direct. Not all footballers are mercanaries, we just need to find the stars out there motivated by what we can offer. No idea whether or not that is Sneijder, hope it is because he's excellent!!!!

Another small point to anyone who is fretting. We were excellent last season until we lost Laursen. After that we were still scoring 1-3 goals a game. unfortunately we were conceding 2-4 goals a game hence out terrible form. I firmly believe that an excellent centre back is all we need to be great next year. Evereything else we sign will be over and above that. If MON breaks the bank fior what we need most then all will be well..........obviously a few backups as well :)

The strange thing is that in other countries CL is on offer from teams that we would nor, ally beat 4 times out of 5, the pluses for us are that we have the best league in the world plus eurpoean fottball a great manager anda young and ambitious teamthat just needs three or four other players to make it a very good team with immense potential. Not all football players are overpaid primadonnas I am sure. MON's problem is that he has to find them among the dross. I am sure he will.

Sneidjer,Huntelaar & Defour now, now now!!!! Sign them!!! 50M well spent! Distan & Upson for a total of 15M and with all 5 we are an awsome team that even Man City will struggle to beat over a season.

think straight choice between CL and non CL and it is ALL about CL though UTV? Think what we'd offer compared to Liverpool wages wise would be the same so that wouldn't be a factor.

it was stretching it a bit spelling wise wasn't it RussianHammer! LOL
