Villa Transfer Talk - Real Madrid Star Anyone?!?!

Villa Transfer Talk - Real Madrid Star Anyone?!?!

Not sure if these are old quotes or not but John Carew has again said that he is not going anywhere despite links to Spurs and... oh whoever... 'I am really, really happy and I haven't thought about anything else. There will always be speculation. But I'm really happy at Villa.'

The Daily Mail claim Villa are after Belgian and Anderlecht fullback Jelle van Damme Apparently the former Southampton player has come on leaps and bounds and is on wanted by a number of Premier League Clubs. He is 25-years-old and 6ft 4ins tall with the versatility to play in the central defence or left-back position.

Shall we wiki wiki? I think we should! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jelle_Van_Damme

The player, known as the Jolly Green Giant by absolutely no one apart from my imagination, also weighs in with goals:

Ashley Young has told The Daily Express that he is going nowhere. I'm sorry but what the hell is going on. Two happy players and positive talk? Not impressed! :o)

The England winger, linked to Manchester United, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Chelsea, as well as daft reports of swap deals with Spurs, said: 'I’ve got two and a half years left, and I’m delighted to be playing at the club. If you just look at the manager and his ambition, the ambition of the chairman and the ambition of Villa’s players, it proves everyone is pulling in the right way. Yes I can see myself seeing out the rest of my contract here. Of course I can. I am extremely happy at Villa, delighted at the way things have gone.'

Gone by next week then?!?!?! ;o)

Oh, not a transfer, but another snippet in the press, this time The Guardian, says that Villa are hoping Stiliyan Petrov could be fit for the start of the season as scans have shown no serious damage to his shoulder which he dislocated during the Peace Cup game v Atlante.

The Birmingham Mail insist that Craig Gardner is high on Blues manager Alex McLeish's transfer list.

The Express & Star are claiming that Villa are being priced out of a move for West Ham and former Arsenal defender Matthew Upson. Shame if true, I think he'd be perfect at Villa. Apparently the Hammers want £15m for the England international. Bit risky judging by his injury record I guess?!

The same report claims we are no closer to bringing in Portsmouth defender Sylvain Distin either having had a £2.5m bid turned down.

This is a Bill Howell rumour, so..... The report in the Birmingham Mail claims Villa are going to swoop for 25-year-old Dutch international and Real Madrid star Wesley Sneijder.

Apparently Liverpool have already bid for the attacking midfielder but Villa are now set to enter the bidding. This looks like madness to me, if the fee has been agreed between Real and Liverpool, then I'm sorry, he'll go to Liverpool as they are in the Champions League. Lets be honest?!

The same report repeats the links to Sporting Lisbon's Miguel Veloso. The 23-year-old is apparently rated at around £12m and we've wiki'd and youtubed him before... so swiftly moving on...!

The Birmingham Mail claim we are set to seal the signing of Blackburn's 27-year-old left-back Stephen Warnock. The report says Big Sam wants to find a replacement first. I'm not so confident of this link, the steer I got was this wasn't a player we were chasing, might be the wrong steer though, time will tell.
