Villa will now face Juventus in the final of the Peace Cup after last nights 2-1 win v Porto
Text commentary from last night on the official site: Click Here
Brad Guzan who pulled off some terrific saves says the progression is a 'massive achievement' for the team.
Saying to play in the final 'is a big deal. We're now in there and we need to take our form into Sunday.'
Adding on the official site: 'We knew - to beat Porto - it was going to take good football over 90 minutes. We wanted to start the right way. In that opening 45 minutes I thought we were brilliant - we were flying around and that paid off in the end when that final whistle blew.'
Modest on his own performance, he says the credit 'goes to the boys' who he says 'played fantastic'.... Oh go on Brad, take a little of the praise! ;o)
Meanwhile England striker Emile Heskey who was a very naughty boy for being red carded (!) pointed to Villa youngster Marc Albrighton who if he continues to develop as he has might save the club a fortune in transfer fees, saying he has been brilliant. 'I can't speak highly enough of him.' Adding 'Marc produced a great cross for my goal. He has done very well in the games he has played for us in this tournament. We know the quality of crosses he can produce. All John and I need to do is get in the box and hopefully get on the end of some.'
Heskey also told the press, including Matthew Kendrick of the Birmingham Mail 'It was a niggly and silly game. Whenever we got close to them they’d fall on the floor and the referee would give a free-kick, but when they booted us up in the air we got nothing. There was no consistency there. We’re going to be playing in the Europa League and we are going to have to get used to coming up against teams and players like this.'
Heskey thinks the team have to learn this is what they've got to expect next season in the Interflora or Europa or whatever it is called now!
