Fitness Updates For Luke Young & Wilf
Fitness updates for the Villa players currently struggling with injuries.
Martin O'Neill has sent full-back Luke Young home from Spain as he continues to struggle with a thigh injury. The right-back has yet to feature for Villa in pre-season and MON explained how frustrating it has been:
'He looked like he was going to be fit on a number of occasions but he has had set-backs. He trained exceptionally hard two days ago and then yesterday he didn't last too long.' Adding, 'We have sent him home now to do some rehabilitation work. We think that is the best thing to do.'
O'Neill also said he was very satisfied with how the former Middlesbrough man played last season despite being out of position for much of the time (as a left-back)
O'Neill also spoke about Dutch left-back Wilfred Bouma saying he is doing 'pretty well' and hopefully he can return to training in a few weeks.
'It was a set-back some months ago to find out he had floating particles in his ankle - nothing to do with the operation he had - but that has been cleared out now. It's just taking a little bit of time and that is frustrating for Freddy and for us too. He will be a few more weeks yet.'
Hopefully they'll both be back soon, it doesn't take me to say we need all the bodies we can get... if things don't pick up soon, I might at long last get my chance...!

I hope Lichaj starts again--this is valuable in-game experience for a youngster that we may have to lean on this term.

Lot of rumours flying around that Luke Young may well be facing surgery, and a somewhat lengthy lay-off. I certainly hope and trust that that doesn't prove to be the case, but it does beg the question, why wasn't this injury, that Luke picked up towards the latter part of the last campaign, monitored and treated over the course of the summer? Young Eric Lichaj looked promising last season in the reserve team sure enough soonerfan61, but I would suggest from what I saw of him, which was quite a fair bit, that he is nowhere near ready yet for premiership football. Hopefully he is not thrust into first team action before he is completely ready, because in the long run, that will do neither the club or the player any good at all.
