Villa Would Even Refuse 50m For Ash Young

More quotes today saying there is no way that Aston Villa will sell Ashley Young.

The Villa boss has spoken to the press and in The Sun says the 24-year-old, who we grabbed from Watford for 9.5million in 2007, wouldn't be sold even at 50million.

Is that clear enough for everyone?

Ash is not for sale.... gulp!

Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs, Barcelona and Real Madrid have all been linked but MON says of last years PFA Young Player Of The Year:

'If somebody came in with 50m, I would not do it. It would be up to the chairman but the last time I spoke to Randy Lerner he was not entertaining anything, at any price. There are loads of teams who want him but he's at the right club. I could not be more strong on this. He's not going anywhere.'

In The Guardian he added:

'Sometimes you leave a little caveat in somewhere along the way, where you feel that there is no chance unless someone makes a silly offer – that suggests there is a possibility. But there is not. He won't be going. We're really happy with him. He may not stay here at Aston Villa for the rest of his life; we're going to have to try and make progress. But my own view is that for him to go anywhere at this minute, even if it came to it, wouldn't be the right thing for him.'

refuse a 50m bid, of course you would. although I dont think he is spurs bound and never have, I honestly think MON would take an offer of around 25m and the player would take a CL team in an instant. we as fans of B list teams have to accept we are all part of the foodchain and our best are pray to the Uniteds, Chelsea's etc all part of the fun...

Not sure we are part of the food chain to be honest, we dont need to sell to survive and if the so called larger teams left us alone to build we would mount a more serious challenge!!!! Until players stop becoming greedy and selfish, then we will always have the mentalitly of the big teams snapping up our prized players. I would love to see a player buck the trend and tell the so called big 4 to ***** off!!!!1

Even if we got 500m for him what would be the point if we never bring in the players, we have a billionaire chairman who says theres Money there to spend, we got well over 50m alone from TV revenue, 12m for Barry, 4.5m for Knight, then you need to question that we are the smallest squad in the premiership so we probably have one of the lowest wages to pay on a whole saving the club even more cash. Theres no point having the cash if we never going use it to bring in the players we need to play at the highest level.

villa 4 ever, everyone said the same last transfer window but we ended the window wiuth a net spend of plus 50m and most ppl were happy. I'm still optimistic that we will do the same this year. It is simply rediculous to think that we won;t be spnding a lot more money. It will get spent and spent well

think you are wrong ox, we could have sold Barry for more last summer but refused. If 50m offer came in even then, what do you have to spend to replace 'star' players? If a stupid offer came in I guess it would then all be down to the player, we all know they hold most of the power BUT Ash is young and learning at a great club who could be pusing on and upwards + knows Capello rates the club and team and often comes.

TF, what may be right for the player isnt always the way they decide to go. I think he is probably better at Villa that taking a gamble (football wise) in the guize of ambition. as you rightly say, he is a player of fantastic potential but also still learning, would he become a better player with a move to a bigger club? it is a real gamble and one he may regret for football if not financial reasons. I applaud Villa for their stance over Barry, as do the vast majority of sensible fans, but if a player was adamant that he wanted to leave, that is when it is almost impossible to stop a player moving on.

Well the words of Martin O'Neill make very good reading on the surface, and for now we have to take his 'going nowhere' claims as factual, breathe a little easier, and keep the old fingers and toes crossed, that Ash doesn't develop itchy feet should one of the really big-boys move in for him, and take the step of asking for, or demanding a transfer. Something to cheer us up a little bit and lift us from the gloom of our summer transfer dealings to date, but we really need to face facts here. If we dont get our act together sooner rather than later, and bring in the much needed numbers and quality that this squad so desperately needs, then Ash will be off, whether MON or we like it or not, sooner rather than later. Thats as sure as tomorrow following today. Over to you Mart.

oxfordspur, you come across as a gentleman who speaks a lot of sense, and I dont issue that compliment all too often when speaking to Tottenham supporters. I enjoyed reading your comments. No, I agree with you about the Ashley Young to White Hart Lane rumour, no disrespect to you guys, but that was never an option, it was never going to happen. When Ash moves, he will move on up, not make a sideways step to a Tottenham or an Everton for example, teams that many, certainly including myself, see as basically on a par with AVFC. He will move onto one of the so called 'Big Four', or maybe even abroad, should he continue to improve, progress and develop. He's still way short of being the finished article in my book, as talented as he is. A matchwinner on his day, he is too inconsistent for my liking. Big twelve months ahead of him. He wants to be on the plane to South Africa, and realistically, there's no reason he should miss out.
