Unoial Villa News...

Today's transfer talk is a bit thin on the ground, just a defender linked in... sort of... or ruled out... depends how you read it and Zat Knight linked out again to Bolton. Full article: Should Zat Knight Be Sold? + Transfer Talk

Our latest poll asks if Villa should sell Zat Knight or keep him.

I can't find the full article online at the moment but the Daily Express have a 'story' and that is all it is, linking Villa and England winger Ashley Young to Manchester City. + Distin still being linked. Full transfer rumours for yesterday: Young For £18million? LOL.. Villa Transfer Talk

The press headlines are trying to claim that it is a 'shock' that Stewart Downing might not be back in action until Christmas and yet the quotes were widely reported before we bought him, we certainly had an article on here quoting Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate saying it might even be January before he is full fit. Anyway, here is a bit of info + news that Freddie Boom Boom Bouma could be back by the start of the new season. Full article: Bouma Due Back Soon - Downing Not So Soon

An article looking at whether Villa really are missing out on signings this summer and the conclusion is, so far, we aren't as there haven't been that many moves anywhere: Premiership Stand Off With Summer Transfers?

The official site has announced: Our online ticketing service is now back up and running. Full functionality of this service has now resumed. Thank you for your patience.

The Official Site have updated the images and information about The Holte Suite, Skybox Lounge and the Directors Lounge all of which are being upgraded following the excellent work already done in The Holte (pub, which was a ruin before Randy et al came rolling into town!) and the Trinity Stand areas. Martin O'Neill has spoken ahead of the Peace Cup Villa compete in this week in Spain. Villa play Malaga on Saturday and Atlante (Mexico) next week (Wed, July 29). Villa could potentially face Read Madrid if they progress. The Villa boss told the official site: 'The incentives are there for us because it is competitive and it's a build up to the Premier League which eventually is what it's all about. It's competitive stuff because you've got the possibility of getting into the semi-final and the final. All of those things are ahead of us.' Another of the mighty fine 'that was the week that was' for Villa from Sheriff Kimbo: The Week In Villa #48 (17/7/09 - 23/7/09)

Steve Sidwell told the Express&Star that he is looking to take the chance of replacing Gareth Barry, he said the departure was a big loss 'But, as the saying goes, if one door closes then another one opens. There’s a space up for grabs. It’s down to me to take it. Hopefully it will be me who takes advantage. It’s going to be a big season for everyone, but particularly for us at Villa, because we have to get over the loss of Gareth and Martin Laursen and try to kick on. So the challenge is there for us all.'

Brad Friedel is sure that Villa will add to the ranks telling Sky Sports News that Villa will be adding to the squad this season insisting we need to if we want to keep hold of our best players at the club. 'We want to try to get as high up the table as we can. What I can say is Ashley (Young) is a world-class player and we're delighted to have him at the football club.' He also says the players were all 'half expecting' the Barry's departure adding, 'I know the powers-that-be are doing all they can to replace him. They've already brought in one fantastic player in Stewart Downing and I'm sure they're going to find someone else.'

Spurs boss Appy Arry says he does not want to sell Jermaine Jenas adding that he's heard nothing from Villa despite all the press talk. Full article: Jermaine Jenas Not Villa Bound

The opti's win the fight with the evil negi's in the battle of MON...! Massive Poll Backing For Villa Boss

Mike Field: Barry Bannan has been pleased to be involved in Villa's pre season friendlies so far, but hasn't been quite as pleased with his own form. This is something he's hoping to rectify if he gets the opportunity for more run outs during the Peace Cup tournament. Speaking on the official site today, he admitted that he is loving being involved with the first teamers on a regular basis and whilst his performances so far haven't been earth shattering, he says it's all a steep learning curve and with more experience he'll hopefully become the player we all think he can. Full article: Bannan Staying Grounded

Vital Villa asked, in a poll suggested by Intox: When will Villa win some silverware again? 35% voted 2009/2010 season 26% were preparing for a longer wait voting 2011 - 2015. 18% think not in their lifetime and another 7% are baffled and have no idea! That left 6% voting for within their lifetime and 2% that it might take a little longer than the dates set out.

Thought for the day: I went in to a pet shop. I said, 'Can I buy a goldfish?' The guy said, 'Do you want an aquarium?' I said, 'I don't care what star sign it is.'

Surprised that Barry Bannan is being so critical of himself and his two performances in the warm up games to date. I thought he did reasonably well at both Peterborough United, and then again at Colchester on Tuesday evening. Small in stature he may well be, but the lad gives his all, never shirks a tackle, is always looking for the ball, and complements those attributes by having both the talent and the skill needed to succeed. Definitely one of our young shining lights.

Going to be a very interesting and testing couple of games (at least) over in Spain, as we contest The Peace Cup. We'll do well to progress following games against the hosts and the Mexicans, but hopefully the lads will be up to the task, give it their all, and give us a bit of hope and inspiration for the upcoming premiership campaign. Fingers crossed that we dont return to the UK with any major injury concerns either.
