Massive Poll Backing For Villa Boss

I'd argue that that leaves about 30% that are not satisfied with O'Neill. For a man that has delivered European football to VP for two consecutive seasons for the first time in how many years I don't know, it's a rather worrying statistic. Perhaps this suggests that people are looking beyond league placing as the only barometer of success. If I were MON I would be very concerned by this statistic, what happened if we finish next season in 10th place and fail to impress in the cups?

Id say this site represents a small number of villa fans n that in real terms the figure is about 80% happy with mon easy.

the site gets enough unique users (visitors) to fill Villa Park 2-3 times each month (depending on the season fluctuations) However of course polls aren't that accurate, then again, neither is guessing a figure yourself! :o)

plus u know that theres allways some idiots voting stupid things for the sake of it.

MON has my complete backing, and i am sure we'll see upto 3 more signings in by August 10th.

What is the hardest ? Getting in the top four ? Or pleasing the minority of Villa fans that are seemingly never happy? 99.9% voted for the latter in my recent survey. Truly, anyone with even the remotest titter of wit cannot but applaud the job currently being done my MON and his team.

There are a minority of villa fans who truly believe we are still as big a club as man utd,They will never be happy.Finishing below 8th is not acceptable for a club of our size anything above is the correct standard for us in my opinion, whereas finishing in the top four would be one hell of an acheivment with man city now on the block.O`neill has restored us to where we should be and i for one am loving having a talented mostly english side,Can`t wait for the new season.

think people should stop moaning can anyone name a better manager available that would come i doubt it very much, as you say no one around us has improved their squad makes me wonder what you would be saying about fergie sold the best player in the world and not really bought anyone. None of the top 4 are going to just roll over and gift you their spot and now with city spending like they are it will make it even harder they probably wont break the top 4 but they will be in the mix with us,

Have to agree that a large percentage of Villa bloggers are steeped in misery & are erring on the side of pessimism (probably have a bunch of flowers hanging out of their back pocket as well). Mr Fear, you do not seem to be in that bracket and normally scribe well thought out articles. But...Why do we have to have a poll on MON??? surely people can see the good that has come out of his management? i would suggest the decenters, whilst entitled to their opinions, should open up their own Blog site called "Aston Villa Manic Depressives & i'm only happy when i'm moaning!!"...UTV

doctorwho, no idea what you problem is, if you don't like the site, the polls or the articles, no one is forcing you stick around. If you do like then get on with debating without slagging other fans off (post removed)

not totally convinced that is right lerneravfc, there are some who are convinced Villa could be up there and competing but no one (or no one I've ever met / spoken to on here) think we are the size of Man Utd the way things stand at the moment. We all know they stole a march on us early 90's when they pipped us to the title and surely everyone realises the masses gulp the CL has brought between the top 4 and the rest?

In defence of some of the fans I think you are referring to, the expectations were raised by comments when the new (and great) people took over + MON comments etc. Not everyone is going to think quite so deeply about these things as some of us might, they will read the quotes and take their views from that. Not sure that makes total sense but I know what I mean!

Personally I'd not mind a re-focus where the cup/Europa are given priority to bring in some silverware and days out at Wembley etc. As said, only a personal feeling!

It was suggested Kuffit, that is the simple answer. I did say in the original article I'd avoided it for a while as I don't like the doom and gloom (well, not when the season hasn't started) but he is probably the single most important figure at Villa so I would have thought polls and articles on him every now and then would be very appropriate. What surprises me is from a positive set of results the comments have largely been negative instead of happy at the results...!!! I do try to post articles when submitted and ask as many of the decent polls as I can when suggested, otherwise there wouldn't really be a point in having the function and .... perish the thought .... it would end up just my / other eds opinions all the time... blimey, couldn't have that... we're all doolally tapped!

Not really any different now with splits of opinions than it has always been. JG got us to first at one stage, got us to the FA Cup Final, first since the 57 win, had us in Europe etc. Still some despised him. DOL got us to 6th and he was a bag of *****e.. took a while for many fans to turn though. Surely this is all just football, not sure any Villa fan pro or anti any manager are doing anything wrong, just an opinion and until we win something, no one can really claim success... I'm 100% sure the board and manager won't be resting on their laurels or thinking they have achieved anything yet, they know the amount of work still needed and hopefully this summer will prove a major building block in that quest!

I agree with going for it properly in europe,That annoyed me as much as anyone last season,What i meant was there are some villa fans who here talking at games who think we should be up there with utd and think we are a bigger club than we are.I think a lot of fans need to have a look at how long it has been since we were even in a final let alone won anything.O`neill has got us closer to that than anyone in the last 8-9 years.As i said if we drop to below 8th i will be joining in with all the o`neill knockers on here but until then i am happy overall.

whoever says we shold get ride of MON has got a bloody cheek its seems our memories are very short. MON has done a good job at villa and we just need patience i said before rome was not built in a day !

Yeah, just to be clear Lerneravfc I wasn't having a dig at last season re: Uefa, just got thinking towards the end of last season that maybe a re-think is needed as to where success could come from OR even what success is for us? I think we all have different definitions, certainly the General in his thread is shooting for the stars and says the aim is to win the PL etc. Just not sure... short/medium term how practical that is going to be.

I do think a few previous managers got us close as well AND under a very difficult regime... GT the second coming was very unfortunate also, he'd been promised funds for players and only came back on that understanding and then really didn't get the backing. Think we've flirted with success a few times, I think now some of the shackles have been released regime wise, people are just hoping/praying/wanting more. Must admit for me I'm starting to slightly turn off due to the Chelsea and now Man City type of situations, jeez, you only have to look at Notts County now to see the footie world has gone mad... or maybe I'm just getting older and having less energy to get worried! :o)

the fact that fans of other clubs can vote makes the polls sometimes pointless IMO

It amuses me how zealous and vicious people are about others who dare to say that they don't like MON or want him as manager. The fact is, people have opinions and they have their reasons. It does not make them lesser fans and it does not mean that they will not be supporting MON and the team 100% on match day but to do this does not mean that they have to support him otherwise.

Well said VotN. I'm one of the people who voted for the 'O'Neill out' option - although I am fully aware that isn't going to be happening in the forseeable future. Up to a point, I will acknowledge that O'Neill has done a good job, but that point was passed when, through a series of his own mistakes, O'Neill surrendered 4th place. Not only are those mistakes serious enough to warrant a fitting punishment - i.e. the sack, in my opinion - but this surrender by O'Neill illustrates that he is simply not up to the task of taking us forward. And as everyone knows, in business, if you're not going forward, you're falling back. We will fall back this coming season. My guess is that we will then settle into mid-table mediocrity, have no hope of Champions League football (which we should have had this season, and so should therefore be seen as a realistic aspiration), and, if we get the rub of the green, perhaps have the odd cup run, and maybe - just maybe - win a minor cup competition. Mediocrity is not something I'm happy with, but under O'Neill, this is our future. Of course, I might be completely wrong, but time will tell.

Fear, the truth is this site does in the scheme of things represent only a percentage of villa fans, i did not slag off the poll , or anybody here as infact i suggested an even higher % of support outside of this site for mon, my comments were aimed at the 30% who wernt really behind mon oniell by stating that theres allways some people maybe even from other vitalusers who will vote here for the sake of it, i mean can you imagine them lot down the road on here. anyway,

I'm sure MON 'surrendered' 4th place quite happily Albarnista. It's not like he did everything in his power to help us focus on trying to secure 4th place was it? It's not like Arsenal got back to full strength and started playing to form (form which is way way better than ours if you hadn't noticed). Yes we only signed Heskey in the Jan window, but hell - you really think Arshavin would have joined us over Arsenal? We're still operating at a different level to the 'Big4' and we can't compete in the same manner. The way MON is going about building and developing Villa is the only way he can. Yes, it will be frustrating at times, but jeez - look at the big picture. I reckon I am 65% for MON and 35% against. He's got us into Europe 2 seasons on the spin, and i'm prepared to give him another season or two to see where we go from here. I think he's earned that right. I think the only scenario where I think i'd be happy to see him leave us would be if he accepted he'd taken us as far as he can, and there is a good, high profile manager out there who can replace him and will attract quality - i.e. a Mourinho or someone else just as unlikely. I think MON will know when it's time for him to go, and IMO now is not that time.

we don't really claim to represent anything but the same as a pub table full of Villa fans, or a group meeting anywhere, there is always a cross section, some love a player, others hate the player, others are easy come easy go. Same with managers. My point is if you aren't interested in the polls, just happily move on to the next thing on the site. Just because 30% don't agree with your opinion doesn't make them any less of a fan.

but that fact that i commented on the poll (and passionatly) shows that i am intrested in the poll. and just because 30% of fans would disagree with my comments it dosent make my comments any less of an opinion.

it doesn't mate and you've made a good addition to the site BUT we don't go down the route of slating the other fans or name calling, never have allowed it here,.... well not much anyway. Anyway, moving on...

of course me leaving comments in response to this poll means that the poll had intrested me, it is infact PROOF. If anything im here to make friends not enemies, i do not believe i have called anyone a name directly or called anybody names, only made comments about a certain mindset within a % fans who create negative energies around well upported sites like this. like i say no direct referances were made about anybody, the comments as i have said were aimed at THAT 30% and if the comments offended certain people it probably means they fall into that catagory.

MON is a great manager. Anyone who disagrees should be shot. Some people have no memories and no idea about the time and effort it takes to build and consolidate a true premiership force. i dont care if it takes MON another 3 season to do it, that would be reasonable.
