Unoial Villa News...

The Express&Star have got straight to the root of all things football by talking to Carlos Cuellar about his new beard! Regular readers will no doubt remember that we retired the end of season award 'the best beard at Villa award so Olof Mellberg wins something whilst at Villa' but it seems Carlos is looking to take the non shaving route to fame at Villa also! 'Am I liking the look? Yes, I think so. Now I don’t have to worry about shaving all the time! Olof’s beard was longer than mine will be though, I’ll be trimming mine, but the beard is here to stay. Olof was a great defender for Aston Villa, he was very popular with supporters, but I never like to compare myself with other players. We are different kinds of defenders.' This is the sort of reporting we want, nothing to do with all the silverware and rumours, we need beard talk! Full article: www.expressandstar.com

Vital Villa asked in our last poll: Do YOU expect a wow player bought this summer (15m or over?) Seems like the gauntlet has been thrown down to Martin O'Neill and the club because 74% voted 'they should but they won't'. Full results: 74% Want But Don't Expect A 'Wow' Player At Villa

Steve Sidwell has told the official site he is looking to be amongst the goals this season for Villa after kicking off with a goal against the Posh. 'I was pleased to get on the scoresheet but it's all about fitness at the moment. It's all about getting in position to score goals - not just that but to set others up as well. You get that feel back for it and by the time the season starts if selected in the starting eleven I can show that on the big stage. But everyone's shirt is up for grabs and there is healthy competition and that's what you need.'

Janine Self of The Sun has a report today linking us to Spurs midfielder Jermaine Jenas. Another report says Nigel Hokey-Cokey is wanted by Boro + links to Sylvain Distin inwards and Craig Gardner out! Full links: Jenas In As Villa Do Hokey-Cokey? + Transfer Talk

Martin O'Neill stated that he wants new players in but refuses to panic, especially not to rush players in time for the trip to Spain and the Peace Cup this Thursday. He explained, following the usual fan and press frenzy for transfer talk and action: 'I don’t get anxious. These things take time, like everything else, and you want to try and be as right as possible.' He must leave the anxiety to the fans who get beside themselves through the summer...!!!??? The article does say that MON is more than willing to fly back over from their training camp in Spain to get a signature if a deal is lined up whilst he is away. Aston Villa's pre-season training steps up another gear at the weekend when they travel to Spain for the biennial Peace Cup tournament, taking place in five cities across Spain. Full article: Cuellar wants Peace Cup success (AUDIO)

22-year old striker Sam Williams has joined League One side Yeovil Town on a free transfer after being released by Aston Villa.

Murph: AVFC continue their pre-season preparations with a trip to Colchester, which I am reliably informed is in Essex. With the 3-0 win over Peterborough already in the bag, Martin O`Neill will once again cast a glance over the young lions as he looks to pick his squad to be leaving on a jet-plane. Thought for the day: This lorry full of tortoises collided with a van full of terrapins. It was a turtle disaster.
