74% Want But Don't Expect 'Wow' Player At Villa
Vital Villa asked in our last poll:
Do YOU expect a wow player bought this summer (15m or over?)
Seems like the gauntlet has been thrown down to Martin O'Neill and the club because 74% voted 'they should but they won't'.
13% have faith that they should and will.
11% say that they shouldn't and they won't.... are you following this, not sure I am?!?!
1% had no idea and another 1% went for the rather daft option (I can only apologise for the deep shame I have brought on myself!) 'they shouldn't but they will!'

I stopped creaming over "wow" players when i was 15,It`s a fecking team game.If you want famous names and glamour then read a celebrity magazine or stand outside the ivy with an autograph book and a semi,This is aston villa,An english football club from the midlands not hollywood.

lerneravfc, it's not about celebrity. Merson was a "wow" player. We need another one. Someone that makes something out of nothing. Van der Vaart would do for me but under MON and don't we'll ever attempt to sign a foreign player like him.

Lerneravfc i really like your 1st comment and think you are bang on with your approach but i would not be supprise if we attract someone to the level of van der vart to the club as i think villa are a lot more attractive to these types of players then we have been in the past saying that we still have a million miles to go before we take it for granted that a load of top high profile players will come running to villa

Hey i would love a van der vart snjeider type of player,But i wouldn`t be getting excited about the names or wow factor,Rather because they are quality players.Maybe i got the wrong end of the stick in my first post but it is about building a strong team and not all about big names was the point i was trying to make.

Bring in Van Der Vart, A top striker, a top CB and cover for the full backs and we could well be challenging for the top 4 again........Oops might need a new model keeper as well...

15 mil? not sure id wana pay tht much for many players tht would wana cum to us. The people we attract are of good quality but not worth 15mill. We have to buy younger players for less thn this with great potencial, like hmm....ashley young. Wow players are well and good but what wow player would choose us over the money of man citeh or the champions league clubs? If we could get a snjeder id be chuffed but its not really realistic

To make the next step we need the team you speak of to be full of quality, the wow players are only 'wow' because they are top notch and excite and compete at the top of their game. Oh and I have a great deal of faith in the size and brilliance of our club, we might not be able to pay the top top (stupid) money but we CAN attract top drawer players, why not? This is Villa we are talking about, not some ten a penny mickey mouse club. Of course we can attract players.

I'm neither expecting or craving a 'wow' player. All I'm asking for is the arrival of four, maybe five, quality footballers, preferably proven at the premiership level, who can help to continue to push the club forward. We experienced and suffered stagnation and decline throughout the Ellis era, all too often flattering only to deceive, so much so that I dont want to go through such similar times again. We have to continue to speculate, if that see's the arrival of a 'wow' player or two, then so be it, all well and good, but just let us bring in the right type of performers who can help us build on the two successive sixth place finishes. Not too much to ask, is it?
