Saturday's Press Villa Transfer Talk

Saturday's Press Villa Transfer Talk

Must say I'm a bit disappointed with this, the press really are having an off day with regards to Villa links!

James Nursery at The Mirror says that Villa have made a 'take it or leave it' bid to Leeds for Fabian Delph. Apparently the proposal for the 19-year-old midfielder would amount to £6million in total when add-ons are taken into account.

The Daily Express chip in saying that Spurs are also going to bid for Delph.

The Mirror also claims that Jermaine Jenas is still a target, something that I think could well have some substance to. The trouble is ... it appears to me ... although we do want to do business and buy some Spurs players, Appy Arry wants some of ours and Villa aren't looking to offload. Could be an interesting few weeks as both clubs will have to do something to end this Mexican stand-off... that is if it isn't all just press talk!

The Mirror also say we are also still after Portsmouth defender Sylvain Distin. The Independent also say we are after him and that we'll bid £3million.

Looks like Villa links to Pompey and England striker Peter Crouch could well have been wide of the mark with ... according to the Daily Star ... Fulham and Sunderland both fighting for Crouch having put in £12million bids.

Portsmouth striker Peter Crouch will decide over the weekend whether to join Sunderland or Fulham after both clubs made a £12m bid for the England international.

The agent of Welsh international Andy King has denied reports that Villa have placed a bid for the highly rated central midfielder. No Villa Approach For King

The other link is a repeat of our apparent interest in 22-year-old Manchester City keeper Kasper Schmeichel. He was apparently on his way to Hibs on a free but Villa are set to step in and grab him instead.

I think Distin would be a good shout - plenty of PL experience and if he and Cuellar or Davies can develop a good understanding - no doubt they can become dominant at the back. Better to look at how the CB's perform together rather than as individials.
