Friday's Aston Villa Press Transfer Talk

The Bolton News say that, with press talk hotting up over Villa's move for Portsmouth defender Sylvain Distin that Bolton manager Garry Megson might be able to push through his targetted transfer of Zat Knight.

Personally I don't believe this, how can we build a squad if we continue with a one-in one-out policy? Exactly, we can't. I don't see, especially as we don't need the money surely, why we'd even be tempted to sell Zat who at worst is a good squad player and at best, on his day, a useful central defender for us.

The Sun have the story about Sylvain Distin again, this time saying for around £2million with the 31-year-old taking a pay cut from his £50 000 a week Pompey wages.

The Daily Star repeat the link to '£5m-rated' Villa midfielder Craig Gardner who they claim is wanted by Birmingham City. I'm sure MON has already said the England U21 player is still in his plans?

Mercury and Mail are both saying that Villa are considering the free transfer of 22-year-old Man City keeper Kasper Schmeichel.

The Times repeat the link to Leeds midfielder Fabian Delph but this time more strongly to Tottenham with a reported interest also from Fulham. I believe this is a player that Villa are interested in, time will tell.

The Daily Star say that Arsenal are now after Fulham defender Brede Hangeland and would use Philippe Senderos as part of a deal. Both defenders have been linked to Villa at various times!

Nothing to do with anything but this snippet made me laugh in the Mirror...! Oasis's Noel Gallagher apparently doesn't want Manchester City to get Chelsea captain John Terry because he has 'funny eyes and he's a cry baby' LOL. Pot and kettle?!?!?
