MON Bored Of 'Stories' About Ashley Young

MON Bored Of 'Stories' About Ashley Young

Martin O'Neill has followed on from the quotes by Villa owner Randy Lerner earlier in the summer saying that Ashley Young is not for sale.

The press have been full of talk linking the England winger to Manchester United, Chelsea, Barcelona and Spurs, not to mention Accrington Stanley... I might have made the last one up, then again the press may well have made the other ones up... I digress.

Anyway, in what will no doubt prove to be a futile effort to quell the press talk, MON said on AVTV that the links are crap.

Well, ok, he put it a bit better than that, I am just paraphrasing!

'There have been a lot of stories about Ashley - and that's what they are - stories.'

Adding that although it seems to make the press every day, it is just 'pure conjecture' assuring fans 'No-one has come in and asked us about Ashley Young and I have got to tell you, if they did they would get short shrift. I believe he can reach for the stars here. This football club has been fantastic for him because we have given him this platform to display his skills, excite the crowd and play the sort of football that he is doing.

O'Neill admits that in a way it is 'flattering' that he does get linked as it shows that the player has developed but he also says he finds all the press talk boring... even more so when he has to come out and dismiss it to settle down nervous fans I guess.

So... which paper will have the Ashley Young leaving Villa story next then?!

Lets do this the mature way... silence in the court yard, silence in the street, the biggest (press) twit nit is just about to speak... That should work.. guaranteed!

The idea that o`neill would get rid of one of the best young players in the world which as the prem is the best league in the world and he is the best young player in it means he is,Marked an all time low for dickhead journos in this country,And the fact that a lot of people believed it was even worse.

Downing on the left, Milner and Petrov in he centre with Young on the right wing, with Carew and Agbonlahor smashing it upfront..... I would be quite happy if we got in Delph as well for 6-7m, find another full back for both sides, a Centre half that is Champions League experienced and perhaps a new goal keeper who will let less goals than Friedel and we could be heading dizzy heights next season, although like last season we need more players so players like Agbonlahor wont burn out after half the season because that is exactly what happened, i would love to see world class players but we will never see them for a couple of years while MON si in charge.

It's nice to hear him say it, some people have said the silence was concerning them so hopefully that will end it. Of course, things can change quickly (ie Barry) but in reality, we lose two high profile players and consequently the London press want to think that we're going to get weaker and not strengthen. Then we go and sign someone in left mid... Lo and behold we should actually try to strengthen the squad!
